  1. Yeah personally I love so many different plants and colors I hate to stick to one thing. Sometimes what I do is say my vegetable garden can have reds and oranges and yellow and another bed I can have more softer colors for example.

  2. I definitely have changed my “styles “ thru the years. Adding more shrubs and structure but always trying new things. I always have tons of pollinating plants for the bees and butterflies.

  3. You have the most informative gardening videos! Seeing your greenhouse gave me the idea of putting in an extra shelf which I did this past Monday. The east side wall was the only place I could do one, but it helps immensely. Do you grow anything on the lattice on the outside of your greenhouse? As a child, I remember we had pink phlox that were tall and had a WONDERFUL fragrance. It seems to me that many of the phlox that I have planted lately don't have that same, if any, fragrance. Is what they call "garden phlox" like the old-fashioned phlox of years ago? I love most flowers but lately have had a love of blue flowers e.g. balloon flower, borage, forget-me-nots, etc. Wanted to do a whole bed on that color but was wondering if it would be too monochromatic. I've also had the thought of doing monochromatic beds going from one color into the next, e.g. pink into purple into blue. I love the butterfly bush but can't seem to keep them more than 2-3 yrs. before they die out. I'm really bummed because the whole next week is going to be wet, rainy, cold and maybe even snow flurries. Do you have any ideas for a rock garden? I love going through your old videos!

  4. Really nice and I would say my favourite is Victorian and cottage garden. So like many flowers but also lots of things like ornate table and chairs, balusterade with flowery vines or like old fashioned lampposts. And things like that. And I like a bit of formality when I want it but generally it would be very informal. So somewhat romanticist …if I can say that.
I also want trees. I would love to have conifers and one area would be confier-themed. I would also love maples and cherries too.
I would also have frangant garden too I have to admit. I bought oriental lilies and I love the scent (tho many say it is "too much") and I bought sweet alyssum, and I have hyacinth from as I long as I can remeber. Lilac too, a native plant to my area.
Sadly my main problem is not only hot and dry summers but the fact outdoors is very much cemented moslty, and large concrete area is the worst thing if you want a cottage garden. It shows how in my area most are very practical in mindset and why no one has cottage garden.

  5. Oh my gosh you just answered my burning question of what my style is! I too love the cottage style flowers and that “romantic “ feel but I don’t like the chaos so I always lean more toward more structure and repetition! Arts and crafts! I finally have a name for it! Thank you!

  6. I think you described the sort of garden I’m going for as well. I was calling it cottage garden with the structure of traditional.

  7. I am planning a moon garden around a tree in the middle of my yard. I think it would be so beautiful to look out and see the ‘glowy-ness’ out back. 😃

  8. Have you heard of Boxwood Basil? I've never tried it, but I thought of trying it for a less expensive hedge.

  9. I have 2 black knight butterfly bushes.. they are engineered to not reproduce. Mine are about 8ft tall and 6ft wide. I have them up against my fence. Beautiful bushes.. omgosh it took 1 season for the honey bees to find it. Its amazing to see all the pollinators on it every yr. Bunnies like to play under it and thr birds play in it as well. Smells amazing. Charleston Sc zone 8b

  12. Last year I decided to plant coneflowers to attract pollinators. I bought several different colored coneflower plants but when they bloomed they were all various shades of pink/ purple needless to say it was not what I was wanting now I have no clue what to do with this bed.

  13. Last year in a short raised bed I planted sunflowers& zinnias both tall and shorter ones. I had a cattle panel bent over as a trellis arch. But talk about pollinator magnet, such beauty I'm doing the same this year but I think I will be also planting a couple white clematis with a purple border in the other raised bed. It's going to be gorgeous in my mind. I've tried for 3 years to grow veggies in these raised beds and nothing did well but the sunflowers and zinnias loved it.

  14. Great tips!! My problem is I love plants… my garden is huge and a mess.. I have ADHD and cannot finish what I start.. my garden is cluttered!

  15. Great video filled with wonderful suggestions. I have to definitely be sure not to go seed shopping without a "plan". Ha!
