So, in October I hired a local reputable general contractor/excavator who assured my husband and I that they could rip down two houses, haul them away and level out the yard.
The total cost was $9000.
$4500. we paid upfront and the other 4500 we paid at completion. The contractor/excavator put down grass seed and then threw hay down. The yard appeared to look great, until a few days later when we went out to find all this debris laying under and through the hay.
I immediately notified the contractor and he replied that it didn’t look bad to him, but his employees/son was the one who put the grass seed and hay down. He told us that he would come out and take a look at it. A few weeks went by and I finally did get him back out. He told us he had no plans of ever grading the land, but if we were not happy, then he was not happy.
He claimed that he would have his son come out and clean up the yard and he had a job upcoming that would allow him to bring dirt over to help Level the land out better. This was in October and we had yet to hear from him or have anyone come out to make it look better. I have attempted to reach out to him, and he now appears to be ignoring us.
I need help deciding if we were over zealous in what we were expecting, or should we take this guy to small claims court to try and recoup some money to actually have it fixed.
*we did have some other excavating companies come out and they are appalled at how our property was left.
