What is your biggest mistake that you think everyone should know and should steer clear of? 😊
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The biggest mistake you can make as a gardener is not to subscribe to this lovely channel.
Excellent video. I’ve repeatedly pruned at the wrong time and too much/not enough. Video request (please)! Can you do a video or section on your garden table small interest displays? I’ve always found these up close displays beautiful and this year have some tiny snowdrops in a ceramic dish pot on my patio table – it’s great because I’d never really see the detail of the plant if it was in the ground or even in a pot on the patio, having it on the table is so much nicer and stops the table looking bear. I’d love to hear your ideas on not only spring table ‘up close interest’ displays but things for all the seasons, maybe something you could return to as the year progresses? Just a thought (and hope) 😊
The weeding bit really hits home. We think ALL weeds are taking a break like we are, but they are gaining ground for sure.
Good video Niall but upset that you dig dandelions up. They're a really useful early nectar source. Our bees are really struggling and need so much help early in the season.
My point for next month's video is don't be too tidy. My allotment looks dreadful at the moment especially the wildflowers that have gone over. But the area is stuffed with insects. I went to cut some stems and they were full of ladybirds, so I'm not cutting anything back, including the weeds, until beginning of April. Let's think less about it looking good and more about the good it's doing for our wildlife. Thanks, Shoshanah 🐛🦋🐌🐜🐝🪲🐞
Hi Niall, the birds are singing and seem quite active where i live, do you think it's too late to do heavy hedge work?
Ah now I never make the mistake of not weeding on a decent February day! I love pottering about and it’s so easy to get the little tinkers now!! 😂👍🏻
On perennial "weeds": Something growing is preferential to bare soil. The "weeds" in our gardens are adapted to grow there. My attitude towards them has changed greatly as I struggled to turn a recent building site, with all the compaction, rubble, and subsoil, into a flourishing garden
I am so happy I found you!
I know potatoes are easy to buy but ohhhhh, I love pulling those out with my daughter. She gets so excited over every single tater! Such a joy. Maybe it’s a joy bc I don’t do much of the digging myself 😉
Merci Niall pour tous tes bons conseils ❤❤
Such an excellent video! Thank you Niall
Sound advice, Niall 😍🙌 plenty of all 3 mistakes made here, too 😂
Great video
Wonderful advice Niall !
A common mistake I often make in march, april is forgetting to label my seeds, bulbs etc. I overestimate my memory power😂
Loved your presentation. I look at those perennial weeds and make a date with them that I break. Another think to add is planing too soon. I am so eager to plant something that I have started some things indoors that I will have to baby until my last frost date – March 30. Thank you for sharing and you are so upbeat and pleasant.
A big mistake is starting your seedlings too early. They get leggy, fall over and maybe break off. Be sure to check the packet to see how long to start before planting out, check your normal frost free date and count the days back. What I do is find a grower that started the plants I want. I have a friend who does an amazing selection of heirloom tomatoes. I have the prettiest tomato salads.
I did my weeds in the back garden and threw down some more clover seed, even though it's too early. Threw compost on top as well.
I was going to plant peas as well, but i don't have enough space to dedicate to the vines, and i know i won't eat them all.
great vid! thanks so much!
Your channel just popped in my YouTube. What a find 🎉. I am just at the very beginning stage. I shall be following your channel as it's just what im looking for. Thank you sooo much 🙏🫶from Italy 🇮🇹
Amazing video! Love the presentation and the music is great and well placed. Keep up the good work I really appreciate what you do.
What zone are you?
5:29 “they’re digging in deep while we’re looking away 👀 “ 😂😂😂
Oh, I'm guilty of all of those except not trimming the hedges (because I don't have them yet). As for the chillies – I keep growing just as many of them as always since my discovery of cowboy's candy (put it thinly on wholemeal sourdough bread with butter and you're addicted in no time). Also whatever chillies left my chickens are gonna eat throughout the winter.
Came across this video after coming in from planting a few violas, moving some leaves and edging my lawn, waiting for my holly tree to have a good prune soon by a tree surgeon can't wait and what a lovely channel this is.
My biggest mistake is not tackling ivy at the back of my border whilst my shrubs have bare branches and I can reach it.
