@THERUSTEDGARDEN
Thanks you – I always wanted to no what to buy in the stores – I buy garden soil & put it on my flower beds & veggie gardens- I mix my homemade compost with it but according to you I need to buy peat moss & mix that together right . Every year I add homemade compost until I run out . I plant mostly succulents so I have to be careful with too much peat moss ..
Perfectly timed video!!
Our top soil bags are usually full of weed seeds. What should we look for to not have those weeds?
Most countries in the UK are moving away from peat moss because it is not a sustainable resource. What is your take on that, and what might you recommend in its place?
This years bags of name brand potting mixes are RIDICULOUS and barely acceptable. I bought two bags and both full of sticks, sand, wood chips, rocks, and a few non identifiables. A little is understandable, but it was crazy when I went to do my winter sowing. I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced this or is it just me?
Thank you Gary. Perfect time for this video and seed starting is begnning here in zone 7b Virginia.
You helped me through starting my first garden from seed. I even started worm composting. I used peat moss, worm castings, steer compost and alfalfa pellets for fertilizer. My garden was great. This year I will be ready for the bugs before they come, but I am hoping for an even bigger garden this year using extra containers. Thank you and I am starting my peppers and herbs this week and I have strawberries that should be producing this year.
Hey Gary, thank you for all the information! I am loving this new series you are doing. I was wondering what your thoughts were on Coco Choir instead of Peat Moss. I have several bricks laying around, but now I am wondering if Peat Moss is preferable.
Good info. Thanks 😊
I’ve bought organic raised bed soil with batteries in it! Didn’t know they were organic 👎Steve zone 6 b
Thing is, virtually none of the products contain any actual soil. In fact, usually the only ones that do are labeled topsoil. Ther rest are just organic matter, which is all going to decompose, meaning they'll have to be replaced year after year.
Your 100 percent right
Gary your very good at what you do
I wish we had bags of the leaf mold here at the box stores. We do have a cheap brand called PWN Own at Lowe’s or also the same thing in the Bi Mart brand at Bi Mart. It’s 3 cu ft compressed and is kind of heavily wood based, but only $13 USD and better than Kellogg for sure even though it is kind of heavy on wood. With it being compressed it goes a long way. I put it in soil, or mix it with other things for containers. I just add a little peat moss and perlite I think it might have a little peat moss in it already, but not much. Of course you need to fertilize it, or it’s not going to go well.
Great info again! Thank you Gary!😊
Thank you so much for sharing this information with the new gardeners I am very new as I think I left a message for you before, I really enjoy gardening and you have been a help and an encouragement to me I will continue to keep going. I need some advice on how to best compost my kitchen scraps I think I'm keeping them in the house too long in a container should I throw them out if they're in getting like a mold on it please help
