Hole found in lawn

I found this hole in the lawn (backyard with brick walls) while mowing and can’t figure out where it came from. I asked the kids and they said they didn’t dig. I believe them because it’s been cold and they haven’t been out there much. Does anyone know if this possibly came from an animal? It doesn’t look like any pictures I’ve seen online.
