  1. I look forward to seeing how your Red Baron onions do. I tried growing them twice, but our soil gets too compacted and they didn't do well. We've been amending our soil a lot and I hope to try them again.

I've done the Candy Roaster winter squash and they are amazing! Pink Banana, which is very similar, is also excellent.

I've been trying to grow Madga squash for years and they really, really struggle where we are. Which is unfortunate, because the few we do get are delicious!

  2. The best time to start planning, ive been doing pretty good at that in the past 4 or 5 years. I just need to allocate more time for actually prepping and planting. Im running out of room for things i want to plant cause ive got too many stinging nettles growing all around and in my garden. Also i need to actualy put up my electric fence.

  3. Greg, basil, peppers, egg plant, tomatoes, and green beans are very cold sensitive. Parsley, spinach, lettuce, radish, onions, garlic, and peas are fine with the cold. IMAO.

PS: for the peppers, if you are planting heirloom varieties, consider saving the pepper seeds.

  4. I was wondering about your russett burbank choice. Have you found the red norlands are getting scab at your place now?

  5. This video was perfect timing! I was settling in to do my order and couldn't find the basil you recommended last year (mine was to strong to use). I planed the garden out as you recommended in another video and toes and fingers crossed the mice don't devor things this year. (I caught 19!) Thanks again

  6. I had good luck the last six years with tomatoes in the same spot,l started out with horse manure and wood chips on top,l don’t clean up or remove the plant roots from the ground, the next year l will plant close to the old plants and mulch so far so good.

  7. The hardest part for me is the 'best sun' locations are for tomatoes. It limits my rotations. I have the same issues with surrounding trees. I found celery and my greens are also the best for that location.

  8. I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm in NB and have the gardening itch already! I do indoor hydroponics to see me through until summer!

  9. When you replace your strawberries, do you buy new ones from Veseys? Which type would you recommend?

  10. I just sat down with my new Veseys Seed Catalogue today to decide what I want to order this year. I'm going to try the volcano carrots this year too. Can't wait to be able to get started. I have been out digging up parsnips a couple times this winter and it feels good to get in the mud. Very wet mud, when it isn't frozen solid!

  11. Any suggestions for planning Brussels Sprouts? We haven't had much luck last 2 years. SW ontario zone 6a/6b started them in solo cups last spring and transplanted early spring. We find ontario just gets too hot too fast and all the cool crops get stunted.

Related question: what's the best warmest weather lettuce that you have good luck with?

Cheers and thanks for all the content.

  12. I love taking photos of plants growing to show what you actually planted, and a pic of snow to show the planned future.
