  1. The photo was taken at UCONN, Storrs CT USA in November 2024.

    The range is the Atacama desert / coastal Peru. Native to extremely arid coastal regions, where the plants grow loose and rootless on the desert floor, subsisting largely on a dense fog known locally as camanchaca. The fog nourishes plant communities called lomas formations. The plant was acquired in 1999.
