In this video I visit the legendary Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, a biodiversity hotspot, to do some orchid and plant spotting. This video is filmed over three days, during which I visit as many of the nine cloud forest trails as possible and find them fairly dripping with wild orchids, some of which are in bloom. Day three reveals a parasitic beauty that I feel sure is a Rafflesia relative but stay tuned to the end of the video to find its true identity. Botanic names are written on the screen wherever possible.

Maybe one day I will go there too. Praise the holy Mount Kinabalu. The church of life. 😂❤🎉
5:12 There are also many species of Eria which are related to Dendrobiums native to Malaysia
13:10 ….and there are many Dischidias and Aechynanthus that also look like Hoyas😅😅
Really love seeing such a passionate plant person get to travel to a place like this. It must be just awe-inspiring to experience. Also you probably can't even help it but thank you for identifying plants as best you could. Sending good vibes from New Mexico 🌵☀
Lovely report, Rachel. A window on a world very different from ours. Wow!
Hello Rachel, thank you once again for taking us along with you to explore these amazing places with so many beautiful plants! . My favorite plants from this visit was each and every single orchid!!🤩😍🥰
❤❤❤
Hi Rachel, what a trek, thanks for taking me along somewhere I would be far to sissy to go. Im far more comfortable in your beautiful garden at home🤭I was so pleased you put your trousers on the second day. Bare legs😱The pin orchid so sweet. I was surorised the trees looked thin, I imagined the trees to be huge in diameter. You are an intrepid lady ❤
❤❤❤
Thank you so much for this wonderful video Rachael. It sure makes me appreciate botanists going into these forests to document all the amazing plants. I think you & your husband are real troopers‼️ Well done the both of you ❤ I love the orange orchid you saw last of all – it was huge 😮 and that fungus was fascinating 👏👏👏👏👏
❤wow I especially luv hearing the sounds of the Rainforest. Thank you!
Another fascinating trek that is very well filmed
The beautiful terrestrial orchid ! The epiphyte
orchids & ferns are lovely
I did NOT care for the creepy leech . No . No .
No.. Never !
Thank you for sharing these Plant Hunter video
treks and amazing experiences . I dont believe
that jungle botanising was easy

That Tibouchina is not actually a tibouchina, its a Melastoma Malabathricum a native species. In the same family as tibouchina. The big difference is tibouchina is endemic to south america and has hairy leaves and Melastoma is native from india to the phillippines has short hairs. Its a medicinal plant with an edible berry
Though Clidemia hirta which has wider leabes is a major invasive in both east and west malaysia species
My hubby travels the world for work. When hes in the amazon or Indonesia i always ask him "did you see any orchids?" On your adventures?
You are a brave woman! Those leeches would have been the last straw for me. We have stinkhorn fungus here in the deep south of the US. I had a few oak trees removed and the stinkhorns appeared a few years later. Mine looked like pink octopuses. More importantly they stunk- from over 8 feet away. How you could get so close…"You are a greater man than I am Gunga Din".
Lovely video. I think that’s a fungus very like Aseroe rubra we see around Sydney Australia
That "mini Rafflesia" is starfish fungus or Anemone stinkhorn.
A fascinating video, so many amazing plants. It's a good thing I only have a tiny garden space otherwise I would live in a jungle. 👏🙏
Me ha encantado el video
Did you bring back any sovenirs🧳🤫
