I bought this a couple of months ago from a popular homeware store and was very pleased with it. I kept it in the living room, which is one of the colder rooms in the house, and after a few weeks without water the peat was still wet and had started to develop white growth on top. I removed the nastiness and relocated it to a warmer room to dry out.

Over a month later, I still haven’t watered it and the peat is still wet 😭 The white growth reformed and most of it I have scooped away, but you can just about see (slide 3) that some of it is still on the stems at the bottom. Some smaller growths with less access to light have started to turn yellow too. It’s so pretty but has its fate been sealed?

*Asparagus* like bright light. If yours has gone almost two months without water, then it’s definitely not getting enough.

I would mix some pumice or perlite into the soil so it drains better and put it back in that pot.

Mold and fungus aren’t harmful to the plant but are a sign that the soil is staying wet for too long.

For it to stay wet for so long, is the mix draining properly?
