This is a crime and I’m so deeply sorry for it, I have a handful of other thriving plants but no matter what I did for this guy his leaves kept dropping and none ever came back.

Hes by a large window and gets a ton of bright indirect light, and I water once a week ish if he looked droopy or if his soil has dried out (I have a moisture meter). Before I try to repot and revive this thing, is it too late?

looser soil, check moisture level with a chopstick before watering?

Mine consistently has 4 leaves but only ever 4 leaves. If my research is correct, they like moist soil but hate actually being watered. And before you think “one of those self-watering pots” they also apparently don’t like to be moved. So if you find a way to keep your soil moist but without ever watering it or moving it, let us who struggle with this plant know ‘cause there’s a lot of us.

It’s a zebra plant and they’re notorious for being fussy. If you can, water it with rain water. If that’s not possible, alternate tap water and distilled water. It doesn’t like being soggy and it doesn’t like being dry, so make sure it’s in a chunky potting mix, no peat, and stick a chopstick or finger in the soil every few days to check moisture – water when the top couple inches are dry.

I think, if it’s not over or under watered, the next biggest sin is not enough light. These are fast growing, flowering, weedy plants, in nature, and if we provide enough light, correct watering, and food, they can nearly everblooming. That said, that ARE notoriously fussy houseplants and better in a greenhouse window or slightly more plant oriented ( light and humidity ) conditions. I haven’t tried them in a while as a traditional houseplant, but I grew some in my reptile enclosures for a time. I don’t have enough shade for them in my landscape outdoors.

Mine is a pain in the a$$ too! Honestly, I’ve kept so many plants alive and happy for years but this guy, just hates life constantly 😂

I ‘forgot’ to water mine and eventually the situation resolved itself…

I have had a ton of houseplants in my lifetime and nothing has ever made me feel worse than this b*tch right here. It is not a crime honey, that is a DRAMA QUEEN.

Where have I seen one on YouTube that that lives inside and looked really nice… think, think ….. oh I remember, saw it on Sheffield made plants. Richard has a beautiful jungle in his house in England. I gave up on them years ago 😢

It will grow leaves again if it gets the right water/light. I’ve had success keeping mine in those self watering clay pots. I also use a chunky soil and when I water I add some fertilizer too. I use diluted orchid fertilizer from miracle grow. I have completely chopped mine to a short (1”) stem and it has grown back completely
