I live in South Florida and, until a couple of weeks ago, used my backyard to play with my dogs daily. In addition, because of a broken sprinkler pump, my sprinklers were off for many months.

I couldn’t take it anymore how my lawn looked, so I started doing some research and was presented with several options:

  1. Artificial grass
  2. St. Augustine sod
  3. Seed and fertilizer

I went with option 3, and about 11 days ago, I fertilized my lawn with fescue grass (which is excellent in the shade, as I have a massive tree) and fertilized it. Fast-forward to today, and what a difference!

I’ve since had my sprinkler system repaired, and it has been going off three times a day (every eight hours). No one has touched the grass, and I take my dogs out on the side of the house now.

I hope to keep it healthy because I miss having a thick, lush lawn. I plan on re-fertilizing it again mid to late March.

I used the following YouTube video as a reference to learn more about lawn care, and I found it incredibly helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c54WSOI-MMc
