You can use peat moss instead of coco coir, but make sure you boil the water to prevent fungal gnats from causing you any problems.

This is just the method I use, your results may vary, but I had a lot of success doing this last year.

  1. Calling that coconut coir soil is a stretch… might be ok to start seeds in but soon after germination you’ll want to feed them as that stuff has basically no nutrients for the growing plants. A liquid fertilizer like neptunes harvest is easy to add to your bottom water trays every two weeks until planting out.

    I personally use pro mix and don’t need to feed much.

  2. I suggest having a worm farm its kinda cool to watch em eat stuff so quick and they make really nutritious castings for your soil. I found some worms under rocks in the shade and put them in a jar inside during the winter so i dont have to go outside to compost. But the idea is to have a bucket or pile with a bunch o worms and you can put your kitchen scraps in there so they dont stink up the trash. Then use their poo to fertilize your plants
