Yay Jess!! Planting time! 🎉 I am in zone 10 here in Central Florida and I am a little late to the game this year and we had a very horrible frost but I have cut flower starts and dahlia tubers going out this weekend! So happy for you!!
How long will your pumpkins keep?
So nice to see you all gardening together!
Hi Sowards😊
Thank you for all the information. Will be starting my peas, beets and leeks this week. Also going to get some chives and sage to plant. Am in 8 B so should be good to go. I am excited to get some more planted. My broccoli and cabbage are doing so so. Hoping my strawberries come back or will be buying them to plant in my tower. Loved watching the kids help you plant. Hearts and flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
Im so jealous here in Iowa. In a few days the high is 14, so I'm definitely a few weeks out from gardening
It’s good to see your younger kids getting out and helping you !
gotta watch laura on Garden Answers" tells about onions….
dehydrate the onens
onions dehydrate to preserve
I love watching your channel! Thank you for doing what you do! I have learned so much and can’t wait to get started!
How DO you do that rapid mental calculation of F to C? I am so impressed.
nice video I did onions one-year squrils dug them I got no onions
Forget Groundhog Day! My shedding golden retriever says winter is ending.
Sour orange made like lemon meringue pie is yummy
I opted to try and grow potato onions this year from seed. They're similar to a shallot in that they multiply by dividing, and apparently are very long keepers. I'm self-sufficient in garlic and leeks, and hopefully soon will be in onions as well. I spend too much on onion plants every year, giving them prime real estate in my raised bed and fertilizing them with organic allium feed, for them to then hardly bulb up and go mushy in storage a month later.
Hi jess here in scotland we can't plant anything out till end of May as that's when our end of frost ,whe I plant my leeks i use a dibber and drop the wee leeks in the hole when watering the holes the soil gradually fills the holes and that way you get lovly white shafts at the bottom of the Lees thank you fir your vidios alough i can't plant when you do my leeks grow from may well into the winter months they are growing out in the open your boys are just lovly take care. Anne from Scotland
Jessica Sowards you truly are a Supervisor!😂❤
I plant the same exact onions from Dixondale. I have great crops everytime. I'm growing in raised beds. Still saving for a high tunnel. Loved this vlog. The fam….be still my heart.
Those look like onion starts/seedlings, not sets.
Jessica—Best video you've posted…you teaching your sons to plant onions. Very wholesome and important.
The different root stock on a citrus will not impact on seeds not growing true to type from the fruit. This is 100% due to cross-pollination with another citrus.
Somewhere within the harvesting area of your pollinator is another citrus. It could be a wild citrus or rootstock gone to flower.
Jess, those are actually onion starts or onion plants. Sets are just the bulb without tops. Sets are normally grown to be eaten as green onions. Plants or starts are good for growing large onions for storing for winter use.
Listening to you while my 13 month old sleeps on my chest & I’m impatiently waiting for the snow to melt so I can build raised beds as fast as I can in our short zone😅! Love seeing you include your kids so much – it gives me hope for my daughter in the coming years🥹
Yayyy I’ll be planting my onions today too. I never get a good onion harvest, like none after planting seeds and starts but hopeful this third year trying will be different!
7:58 yes. A gardener needs to know the measurements of his/her body parts! 😊
What a blessing to see Jess! I can’t wait to get out there. It’s cold, rainy, hailing right now on the Oregon coast. But I see light at the end of this wintery tunnel! 🥰💞
I’m a tiny bit envious, I won’t be able to plant outside until about St Patrick’s Day. If it warms up early then maybe a bit earlier! Fortunately, it’s the beginning of seedling starting season, so I can daydream about being in the garden! ❤
We also don’t have an ideal situation here at my home in Newport, Minnesota. I pealed almost all of my onions and most of my garlic and blended them with a little water and turned them into onion and garlic pucks. I love going into the freezer when ever I need some onion or garlic!!😊
Family gardening together🎉 lovely to watch. 🫂🫶 Enjoy your time together.
I grow tons of onions for the two of us and freeze dry a bunch so we don’t have to ever buy them
I wish this type of "schooling" could be taught by all parents worldwide. Getting them involved and interested at this age will encourage participation in gardening as they get older. Thank you Jess and it was especially nice that Jeremiah was there to assist as well.❤
I so love watching homesteading channels where the parents are getting the kids involved — and the kids actually want to help. They are being taught such valuable skills which they can use in their adult lives to take care of their own families (if they have one).
I had such good luck planting sets from Dixondale Farms last year. My onions did amazing! I am in 6b Kansas and planted them at the end of March. I had some softball size onions💕🌻
Love this!! It definitely feels good to garden!! 😊
In a season of chaos I love watching calming content. Thank you. It may be the season to plant a lot of food. I’d love to have the constitution to do so but my deck will hold only so much. I’m not sure what I’d plant?
Same temps we are getting in our “scorching” NZ summer garden 😆😆
I have started onions from seed this year. It is the first time that I have ever grown an onion. Maybe next year I will try the sets to see if it is easier. I love seeing your boys help you garden. Making beautiful memories with them.
You teach them like you teach all of us, lots of patience, thanks
What you planted are plants not sets. The sets are the little bulbs that are dried. It is their second year which is why they tend to go to seed.
I have trouble with them either rotting in the ground before they get big enough or going to seed or just not getting large bulbs. And I was told correct me if I'm wrong that it may be because I'm not planting set for this particular area that I need to source my onion sets from a variety that's produces well in this area
The boys are getting so tall!
Jessica, you are a born farmer, and you are blessed to have a husband who supports all of your endeavors. Never tell me that a woman cannot be a farmer. You know what you speak of and your knowledge is superior. Why because you seek and receive knowledge from those who have more experience than you do. Signs of genius.
