I live in Fresno Ca and I’m planting grass soon. I just got a soil analysis, can some point me in the right direction on what kind of fertilizer/condos to buy? I think the next step is to till my backyard and lay some compost right?
Will most likely be planing fescue or Bermuda
(I think)

I’m soo glad you posted this. Im also in California, but further South in San Diego. My soil tests have been eerily similar to yours and it might just be Cali coast soil. You have slightly high PH, same as me, and applications of elemental sulfur should help, but have not lowered mine even 0.1 in 4 years. I also have high calcium, high sodium and high soluble salts. I’m also willing to bet you watering source has a PH similar to your soil. To rid them salts, you may need to leach the area by overwatering to flush it down, but once again, I have done everything possible for years and it just won’t budge. My turf looks amazing, so just work with the cards you were dealt.

California has more days with positive growth potential for cool season turf than warm season. Tall Fescue is very popular in Cali and stays green all year, with watering. Buy your choice of “good quality” seed and a general bag of lawn starter fertilizer and read the label for application rate. I do warn you that cool season turf in Cali should be planted in Fall to give it enough time to establish before summer heat. The next optimum temp window is in March and it being ready in time for summer heat is slim. I made that mistake once.

    Best of luck to you!
