Purple foliage is a beautiful feature to have in the garden, but unfortunately, a lot of purple foliage trees are finicky and need perfect conditions. Not Prunus Nigra though. This is a very tough tree that is wind hardy, heat hardy, frost hardy, drought hardy and tolerant of poor soils. So if you have a difficult site that is begging for some beauty, this is the tree for you. These would look particularly fantastic in a Cottage, Japanese or Coastal garden.
