I’ve had this hole in my front yard where the grass meets the sidewalk for quite a few months now. I don’t recall how it got there and it wasn’t initially there when I got the house a few years ago. From what I recall, it hasn’t really gotten any bigger since I noticed it. It seems to extend quite far, I’m able to put half of my arm in there before I’m able to touch dirt. What should I use to fill it?

Small animal lives in there. At least part time.

Simple fix. Insert your arm, then saw it off flush with the grass.

I fill those up with dirt. I worry the concrete would crack without the underlying support. Not sure if that’s irrational tho.

I don’t see any signs of water flowing out. If you have irrigation in the area, would be first concern. Otherwise, just a critter. I’d pop a mothball or two in there first to hopefully ensure vacancy. Then start adding dirt. Use a shovel/rake handle to tap in.

If you have a cat put some litter box contents, yes cat shut, and fill the hole with dirt after a few days
