Finally bought my first home in South East US. I have an idea of how to maintain lawns, but not on how to start one through this mess. Any help welcome. After I mapped it, it's about 5700 square feet with the back and some similar looking grass in the front yard.
What tools will I need, and what are the timelines for certain applications like pre-emergent.
I do plan to seed this back to life and if that's possible in a sand/ seed/ soil mix.

Folks a lot smarter than me will be along shortly. That’s a Bermuda grass lawn. Loves heat and pretty good at snuffing out weeds in the short season it has. All the green now you can kill off with your pick of weed killer.

Sorry if I’m rude… But if you don’t know what grass type you have, you should not start with a big project like this. Hire someone for a while. While they are there, watch and ask questions. Give the tech some drinks. They will gladly give you some ideas on what to do.
I/we can tell you what to do. But application is different than learning. There was a post earlier that a reddotor put TWENTY times the recommended application rate😳.
If that is indeed Bermuda, which looks to be, do not overseed. I’m unsure of your temp/weather at the moment, but I already applied my pre emergent. I’m located central Texas though and more on a schedule than soil temps and all that jazz.
Once you’re about 50% green up, take that stuff down to the dirt. Then raise your deck and mow, mow, mow. Mowing more often promotes bermuda to spread, thus helping to choke out weeds. Post emergent, if you wanna go all out, Celsius/Certainty (Sertay, generic, half price, same ingredients) combo will knock anything out just about. And no temp restrictions.
If you want to get crazy, gas powered reel mower. If not, then a good quality rotary will do. Fertilize once a month during growing season with 1lb of nitrogen per 1k sq ft. I’ll take the folks who say it’s overkill. Bermuda loves it. It’s a nitrogen hog.
There’s too many other things to mention you can do to help turn it to turf. Depends on how nuts you wanna be.
Lastly, the bermuda bible. Google it. Follow it. Even just the basic principles, and you’ll probably have a better lawn than anyone else.
