Hey All.
I live in south San Diego, and I just finally got my first lawn prepped and then installed over seeded TifTuff Bermuda sod.
Sod install was on 1/11/25 and it has taken well so far.
I have just realized around the borders and some areas throughout the lawn, there is a different type of grass growing up that is lighter and much longer than the rye.

Please advise what this is, and if I need to take any corrective action?

I included ‘before’ pictures at the end of the slides. There was no irrigation, and the yard started as mostly dirt, weeds, class 2 base, and what I believe to be centipede grass with my limited research and knowledge.

I had +/- 4” scraped and removed and then I added topsoil before laying the sod.

TIA. Happy to answer any questions that will help guide you to the answer

Wait, so you installed bermuda sod and then immediately overseeded with… Rye?

Setting that aside, its definitely a grass (so not nutsedge).

**Pics don’t provide enough detail for an accurate identification**, but if you overseeded, check the bag for annual ryegrass. Annual ryegrass would look like that.

That’s a purple nut sedge coming from the extra water
