I have a couple of large dogs (80+ lbs) and they like to run and wrestle in certain areas of my yard. After a couple of years of this, they have absolutely decimated the grass in these areas. Anybody have any recommendations about what to do/plant in order to have some coverage here? Trying to keep them from tracking in mud all the time is maddening. I’m in the Dallas area and would rather a drought tolerant solution, but if that’s not in the cards I am willing to water. Thanks!

Turface. Make it like a baseball infield. Will drain well and dogs will be much less muddy.

Gravel the whole thing. Easy to clean and maintain.
I have two dogs who have run a rut along the side of my deck. I’m going to try planting some grass seed under some mulch and see if that protects it and just apply mulch as needed.
Mow high (most important), water deep and infrequently, check and correct soil pH, fall overseed (with multiple different varieties)
In the winter, throw down a bunch of straw over high traffic areas. Rake it/mow it up in the spring.
Easy as that.
I finally convinced myself that my two goldens would always win, so now I care less about my yard. They are just always going to be better at destruction than I would ever be at keeping up with repairs.
Make the dogs watch Ol’ Yellar, and re-seed.
The layout of the kids toys is restricting the dogs space to a straight line, so you’re getting high traffic damage. I’d move everything over to a corner so the dogs will have more room and not constantly walk on the same spot every time.
Research high traffic grass types for your climate and overseed with that.
No advice but that made me chuckle. Had my lab at my parents with their two goldens running around in the yard.
Went inside for a towel to wipe everyone off before they came in.
“What do you need a towel for?”
“I thatched the yard with the dogs this
Morning.”
