Had a very leggy monstera and cut this stem. I propagated it in water and it’s formed multiple roots and has a new leaf shoot. Can I cut off the old leaf? It’s very heavy and really weighs the roots down.

I would leave it, they suck the nutrients out and use it to grow the new shoot

You can, but I wouldn’t if I were you. It’s still doing its job by photosynthesizing for the plant. Cutting it would just slow down growth. You could try giving it some kind of support while the roots develop

you could. it’ll just slow down the growth of the new shoot

wait until the new leaf is ready, then you can cut the old one!

  5. Honestly…I would just plant it, then it won’t tip over. Most people propagate their cuttings way past where they need to. It’s fine, but unnecessary. You have several inches of new root growth. It will be fine, especially if you keep it on a heat mat to keep that root growth going.

I cut all the leafs off when I water prop. Then all the energy goes to root creation. That just how I do it.

Yes. You can cut off any leaf you like.

I would leave her too. With a tutor or similar. If you cut it you run the risk of rotting the cut or damaging the node. It will fall when it has to fall.

The plant will be using this leaf for photosynthesis to create energy and put it into growing the new roots and leaves. Later when this leaf gets old and the plant wants to drop it it will absorb all the nutrients in the leaf till it turns brown and comes of easily.
