I got this at Walmart at a discount, I checked the roots and they seem to be in good condition, do I just chop the yellow leaves and hope for the best? It only seems to have one good leaf out of three

I just watered it and it’s in an area with indirect sunlight

i would keep it in a place away from your other plants for now until you know why it’s struggling.

how big was the root system? any green in a leaf means there are still nutrients in it, so i would wait until the leaf has gone entirely yellow before removing it, unless you find pests on it. also keep it at high humidity

That’s a silver dragon alocasia! I would recommend cutting off the yellowing leaves once they shrivel up, when alocasias start yellowing their leaves they almost always end up dropping them completely.

I would start by moving it to a smaller pot, from my time caring for them, I find alocasias like being more snug. For the medium, use something that has good drainage, something with a mix of bark and perlite in it would work.

They like lots of light, so placement should be right by a window or under a grow light.

It’s likely dropping leaves due to stress, alocasias are pretty fickle about what they like, though since I don’t know what kind of stress was causing it since idk what conditions it was in before. Hopefully it should recover with some tlc!

  3. Might be too big of a pot, you may want to check the roots and downsize if necessary. You could be lucky and find a few corms!

I would neves downsoze as it requires mpre frequent watering. More lighy wouød be good i think. Also if you just got it then its normal to go a bit shabby. The new leaf will be better adapted to your conditions 😉
