I inherited this very large jade tree about a year ago, it lost a lot of leaves in the transition. Then my mom overwatered it while I was away and it lost a lot more. I’ve been seeing new growth here and there, but it’s also seemed unhappy. Every once in a while it’ll start drying up branches. It’s been in the same pot for at the very least the last 5 years. It doesn’t have drainage. I’ve been watering heavy about every two weeks since the winter started. My window gets very little light most of the year, so there’s a plant light right above.

  1. Have you ever changed the soil or fertilized it? A big pot like that with no drainage might have nutrient issues

very likely too much water. heavy watering with no drainage holes in a dangerous game especially in the winter time. jade plants like to dry up completely before another watering. usually it will tell you when it needs more water (the leaves on mine wrinkle a bit when it’s time). I would put a chopstick or finger in to check how damp the soil is before watering again! times always vary depending on the conditions. recently mine has been asking for water every 3-4 weeks since it’s gotten colder out! also since it’s been in the same pot for so long the soil is likely all out of food! I would start to incorporate some plant food / fertilizer in watering rotation maybe once every 2-3 months!

A ton of sun! Jade plants are succlents and need to be treated more like cactus than tropical plants. It is very leggy because it is trying to get up to the light. Do you have a sunny window he could sit in?

Succulents love light and need about six hours of sun per day, depending on the type of succulent. Though most varieties of succulents will not survive with full shade, they also don’t need to be blasted with hot rays all day, so a sheer curtain can help ensure they get some shade too. Then it will be easier to gage the water. They should fell hard & plump.

Your jade is extremely etiolated… It’s not getting enough sun. The leaves should be smaller and closer together. Incidentally, when getting enough sun, they’ll take up more water, making overwatering harder to do
