Hi there! I’m trying to learn if this little guy is a beneficial bug or a pest. He resembles a mealybug without the white fuzz, but he also reminded me of a pill bug, which I believe are beneficial. I just need to know whether I should welcome him or banish him. Thank you!
He’s living on my Hoya that gets low to medium light, watered when moisture reader reads in the dry range.

FOE! That’s a mealy bug! They’re a pest, you should treat it and quarantine it from your other plants for a while.
If you can get systemic granules where you are, use those, and treat all of your plants at least twice. Also, put any edible plants and produce that you can’t treat in the fridge for a few months. They are the plague
mealybugs 🙁
[Here’s](https://www.reddit.com/u/charlypoods/s/fB8XxJWjCY) my mealybug treatment protocol I’ve been updating and fine tuning for the last few months. It has been called an aggregation of many methods, so i guess hopefully at least one or two can be applicable for you. It’s really thorough I think and I really do believe in the step by step nature of it. I am always trying to make it more user friendly, accurate, and readable, so it is always a work in progress. If you have any questions, suggestions, or critiques please lmk!
Foe. They’re annoying to get rid of but relatively easy
A tablespoon with neutral detergent and 500ml of water. Mix and then use a spray bottle to spread cochineal over the plant! The detergent will stop the cochineal from breathing! After I made this preparation, cochineal did not develop. Tip from Spagnol Plants on YouTube!
Kill it with fire 😭 good luck!
Kill them all.
Clean your soil too dude. Run it through alcohol every few days cuz i bet they’re in jt
One of the more evil foes! I can’t even look at your picture without going to check on my plans to make sure they didn’t develop mealybugs!!
Absolutely a mealy bug! Insecticidal soap from roots to leaves. Replant after you’ve cleaned the whole plant in fresh soil. Clean your pot and surrounding area as well. Those F’ing things are the plague! Be prepared for a project but you can knock them out with perseverance.
Alcohol! Not friends! Big not friend! I’m going through a mealys and spider mites infestation right now and I still! The spidermites have been a little easier. I’ve been fighting mealies for months now!
Alcohol and water mix. Some use a q tip, others a cloth. I drown the bitches. Can’t escape it if the whole plant is submerged. Obviously the plants aren’t too happy in the moment but they’ve lived.
Omg squish the focker to dust !
FOE! MEALY BUG treat at once!
Burn it with fire!!!!!!!!
I’m pretty certain this is a mealy bug destroyer not a mealy bug.
Several people have identified so I won’t bother. But I have an aglonema going through it rn. Isopropyl alcohol and q tips, going through and remove any bug you see, nests included. The nests look similar to spider nests, white bundles or something similar. They like nooks and crannies of the plants, underside too. Check every leaf and every nook, spritz with diluted isopropyl, top soil included. If need be, wrap pot/soil and drown the hoe. Good luck, they’re annoying as hell.
FOEEE (but he could be a friend if you are an ant! 🐜 )
