Love the video, thanks for the short, yet detailed ACTIONABLE information!
As someone currently doing a dark start on my soon to be planted tank, this has helped inform me of what I’ll need to be prepared for!
I can't watch your videos with that popping sound effect. It makes my dogs go crazy. Please quit putting it in the videos.
From my experience they grow best in driftwood that have been submerged for more than a year, and also, in a no filter tank.
4:50 That hornwort gonna grow like crazy when the Easy Green hits lol
This was great information. I didn’t realize it took Java Fern months to look good.
I've grown a ton of Java fern underwater in my tanks and I've realized that highlight actually makes them grow "slower"
aside from algae but they're actually just putting more energy into the rhizome and because the light is higher than they don't need to produce as much leaf so it feels like they're growing slower
less light is indeed more 🙂
<3 java fern
My java ferns took 6 months or so acclimate to my colder axolotl tank. Just deconstructed a cube with windelov (it was 4 years old at that point) in it and there was tons of baby plants in there.
Why dont you like tannins?!
Thanks for the video! Since a couple of weeks, some new leaves of my java ferns (grow vety well in my tank) split into three at the tips. The look a bit like forks at the tip then. Did already observe this and do you know, what the reason could be? I speculate nutrients and/or light, but could not really nail it down more specifically, so far…
Can I use your Easy Potasium & Easy Green all safe in Axolotl Planted tank?
I heard a rumor! Your switching light manufacturers … If true why???
Cheers for your plant info Cory. I know how to grow plants above ground but know way less about growing them under the water
Hi everyone can i put a ghost knife with guppies?
It's a 2 inch ghost knife
Great video. Always struggled getting java fern to grow. Low tech tank. 29G so it's deeper. Using the Aqeon deluxe hood with the dual lights. Finally have a bunch of trident that is doing really well. Tied it to some stone ( out of glue). a few weeks in and it hasn't melted, no algae, doing well. I really like those stone planters. Are they available here in Canada?
If the roots are in the substrate and the substrate has poo etc…why the need for potassium and liquid fertilizer? I’m growing Java moss great right now and Anubias.
Thoughts on granite sand (0-1mm or 0-2mm granularity) for corydoras? I want some dark substrate, but basalt is too sharp for them as far as i read.
Thank you so much. Your humor about the plant making more made me laugh. I am enjoying your videos. Unfortunately, I have killed more goldfish just starting out. I'm doing this backward. Watching your videos and learning now.
Java Fern is not an aquatic plant.
All ferns are terrestrial plants.
Java Fern is farmed on land in commercial nurseries.
Commercial nurseries can only grow java fern on land instead underwater.
In the wild Java Fern can survive underwater for a short period when periodically flooded during the rainy season.
For most of the year they grow on the water’s edge, either with their roots in water or moist soil.
Forcing Java Fern plants to live underwater all the time their leaves will be infested with algae.
In an aquarium setting Java Fern gets stunted with algae.
Terrestrial Java Fern has no long term success living underwater all the time because is not an aquatic plant.
Great in depth overview… great video.
I’ve been keeping fish for about 12 years but I never got into live plants until just recently and been scouring the internet for info and your videos have been exactly what I needed!
