(Might need to click the pics to show them in full)

It's been in a 4 inch pot since May with props added back in.

No issues – just wondering if I need to upsize the pot.

Thanks

I would say whenever you see roots coming out of the pots holes. And omg that pothos is gorgeous

Pothos basically love being root bound. However… this is definitely NOT root bound. You could probably water a bit more consistently judging from the colour of the roots and moister level of the soil.

If you repot now… you won’t get much leafy growth until the plant populates the new area with roots.

I’d say… wait a couple months at least & then upsize the pot

I wouldn’t say root bound but could use a little bigger pot with drainage, no more than 2″ bigger than the current pot. The soil looks very compact which could prevent water getting to all of the roots if it is hydrophobic. I would take it out of the pot, soak in a bowl of water to loosen the soil up and remove most of it. Then pot with a chunky mix, at least a good potting soil with perlite added. I have a mix of aroids and Epi’s and make my own mix of coco coir, coco chunks, #4 perlite, horticultural charcoal and a little bit of worm castings. It can be expensive to make your own if you don’t have a large number of plants. Search chunky soil mix, many good ones to choose from.

No need to wait for spring. While that is the ideal time it won’t kill the plant to do it now. It will probably wilt a little after this, make sure it doesn’t get more than 50% dry and it will recover. You can check if the soil is dry with your finger or bamboo skewer half way down the pot, if it comes out dry then it’s time to water. Plant meters don’t work well in chunky soil. Water thoroughly letting the excess water to drain.

It’s honestly a toss up, this is (imo) in the stages right before you could call it truly root bound, however – it is bound enough to repot.

That said, the best time to repot a pothos is spring when the growing season is starting – so even though you *could* repot now – I think you’ll have better success waiting till Spring (which is only a couple of months away at this point anyway).

By spring, you’ll have a few more roots and growing season will be in full force, so it’ll grow into its new pot that much easier.

This is the goal btw (not my plant) :
