New homeowner, ZERO idea on anything soil, lawns, landscaping.
I have a 2 month old and would love to get this dirt leveled somewhat before he starts walking, what are some methods that also won’t break the bank?
Neighbors all have different suggestions on contractors, methods, and tools to buy. Would like to know opinion from here
I’ve been told a tilling tool or machine then level rake as cheapest but also most labor intensive.
Thanks

Small subcompact/compact tractor with a rear pto driven rototiller will work the best to loosen and groom the soil.
Rake and elbow grease
Use a rototiller or even pickaxe to break up the hard soil. If the dirt is extremely compacted, water it lightly a day before to soften it. If the area is large or extremely uneven, consider renting a skid steer.
I used an electric green works tiller on my front yard this past weekend then dragged a pallet around on it to smooth it out. Can use a leveling rake to fine tune. Rent a barrel roller to compact the dirt afterwards.
A relatively cheap option would be to buy a mantis roto-tiller and cheap leveling rake. That’s what I did with a similar size area to yours and it was less labor than I expected.
Had some of this in my yard. Water the dirt every day for a week or so and it’ll loosen up substantially. Then shovel/rake to your hearts content
