Given how many seedling heat mats you must have, you need to start using them like those of us in colder zones do: under your sourdough starter in winter. 💚
Who remembers "frost tender flower"?
Today in MA when I woke up it was -1 F. 😂
Not to be rude and bring in another name of a YouTube video, but a really good source for cold weather, preparedness and emergencies is a channel called Provident, prepper husband and wife team who live in very cold part of Idaho did one just before that bad freeze several years ago in Texas Turning off their power to see if they were prepared for an emergency they used tent in the front room or in one of their warmer rooms to put their children in while they go back into their own bedroom and cover up with tons of blankets seems like it was about 2 o’clock in the morning when mom checked and found that The kids had taken off any heavy clothes that they had on because it was so warm in the tent they have a number on the cold weather right now there’s one on 10 things to do to prepare for emergencies in the winter while some of these issues are past Other people are still going to have more freezing weather and outages. My daughter who has a disability is in Louisiana in one of the places that they got a lot more snow than what they ever got anyway in history I guess that in recent history, and unfortunately, she doesn’t have all of the nice that would help in an emergency, but thankfully, her power has not gone out. She’s there by herself in a little rule town not really knowing anyone who would come and help her, these things can happen in places that aren’t usually she’s below probably an hour south of Alexandria and her snow level she was told was between six and 8 inches. You know how a lot of those homes in Louisiana are up on blocks because of the moisture which doesn’t help seems like everyone’s water has been frozen. She has one line in the kitchen that still dripping she can use, but yeah, this is really unusual Roots and refuge power didn’t go out those storm windows would probably save you a lot in winter heat even if you don’t have an excess in Utah we used strips around the outside of our windows with heavy duty clear plastic, which made a lot of difference in those old homes that had the crank windows Anyways sorry for that intrusion with the video just thought that there are people that really could use the emergency prep thing and these people are not flyby. They live this and do everything they can for emergency preparedness no matter what time of year it is I’ve been following you for a number of years, and you are very strong awesome lady with a very strong, awesome family. You deserve plenty of recognition, even though I live in very warm part of the country in the low desert of Arizona. We still get really cold sometimes not like everybody else, but it could happen to us too, but your gardening tips and the way you live your life has been an inspiration to me. Thank you so much roots and refuge.
Socks are called mittens in the South 😊
Welcome to winter time! It's a great learning experience for you. We've only had a few inches of snow this year, but it's been brutally cold! -7^F with -17 windchill. There's ice on the windows and around the door frames, floor is freezing, haven't been this cold in years.
A dormant land is beautiful. Enjoy your hot chocolate.🎉
Love all those boys in scarves 😂 here's hoping their phalanges recover!!
The wind chimes are lovely. ❤
Your boys are soooo big!!
Jess, your tastes run consistent. The knitted scarf matches the wallpaper in your office just as the scarf you wore the other day in the homeschooling video! Love it.
With the wind chill in northern Wisconsin it was -30 yesterday.
We are woefully without winter-wear here in the Houston area 😂 The snow was pretty though ❄️
If its any consolation its 15° F in New Jersey. Try to Stay warm….check those little fingers for frost bite
2 inches of snow would shut down my part of California lol 😂 we took our son to the snow this year for his 5th birthday and as we were driving up there as soon as we hit the snowy areas I was like oh it’s so pretty but I remember why we don’t live up here now my entire body aches 😂
Stay warm, Sowards family!
Arkansas Arkansas sunny no snow but cold
I lived in North Dakota from the age of 20 to 41 on a ranch… I hate the cold! No other word just hate it well I suppose I could use the word despise, lol!
I am now in Tennessee where is a bit better in the winter!
-28 here your weather would be welcomed
Hey Jesss
I live in Andrews SC. We got 6 inches of snow. I wanted to send you pics but can't uploaded it here.
You might want to get a supply of winter gear in case the weather is changing. Frostbite is a serious matter.
SUCH pretty handmade scarves and hats you all have been wearing lately!! The cold is just now leaving our area. I hope this is the last cold snap this winter!
I was born and bred in Germany. I know all about snow. Then I lived in Ireland for a decade…so I know all about rain as well.
Yesterday I harvested this year's first strawberry in my garden …. I am still chuckling about it. Still getting used to living in the subtropics 😂 It's only been a year and I am still figuring out the growing seasons here. As per Google zone 10a 🌱💚
I heard that people put beet water in their animal's water to keep it from freezing! I haven't done this myself but I looked it up and apparently, they do this up north instead (or maybe in conjunction with) salt on the roads! It is said to be more of a preventative than a solution after the fact. But maybe someone can use this info!
If your windows are leaking cold air in my granny would hang a big wool blanket over the curtain rod and then pull the curtains over that..helps keep the cold out , also if you have no power we always got to drag our mattresses into the living room and pile up blankets and we all crawled in there and it was warmer…block off all door ways with heavy blankets too and kept the heat in one room..We live in western Canada and on the farm power was unreliable so there was always fireplacebor wood stove that was ready for the winter storms. Was just -44 two days ago here and I was closing curtains and hanging blankets just like my grandma did because even my triple pane windows were cold to sit near.
I like how you rearranged their school assignments and schedule to appreciate the snow day. I always wished I could homeschool my kids, but they're all grown and graduated now.
LOL I am an oddball and I love the end-weaving of projects.
We ordered the Yall o meter from Ryan hall yall last year and didn’t get to use it. We did get to use it earlier this month in north Texas! My kids were so excited haha. Luckily I ordered gloves and a sled beforehand because we live in a sub climate and it gets way colder. Most of us Texas peeps were sliding down hills with totes and trash can tops. 😂 one of my boys just grew out of his rain-boots too so he had to wear his cowboy boots!
I'm 63 and lived in Augusta and N. Augusta … SC, go figure… and this is bringing back childhood memories. 10 inches in NOLO is crazy … those kids will be telling their grandkids about how they barely survived the Blizzard of '25. 😀 Consignment shops for the gloves, you'll find plenty in june. The farm is lovelier.
Love hearing all the different weather and how some just cant deal or the ways the deal/adapt. Im in wisconsin so were use to 90° or 100°f with 100% humidity as well as just last night it was -32°f. Nice to learn different techniques to get through it.
Quit dancing around the truth that you see with your eyes! This is weather warfare directed at the poor people lining in western North Carolina.
Oh glad to hear the boys are out in the snow ❄️❄️ probably a 20 year event !
Live in Kentucky and love the snow!
I just have to chuckle, it was 0*F here this morning, and at 28* I’m out doing chores in coveralls and a hoodie. But when it’s in the 90’s here during the summer, I’m absolutely dying. Definitely not built for that! I’m not a frost tender flower, I’m a dramatic, easily bolting bunch of cilantro 😂
You all need to come for one winter in Canada and then you will be able to handle any kind of short winter weather that you get. We get +5 to -50 Celsius here all winter long….I hope you all manage ok. When you live in a cold climate for a while you to get somewhat climatized…we do have very warm clothes which make a big difference…and boots rated to -40.😂
morning from northern new york
Advice for gloves ….wear nitrile/latex gloves under whatever gloves you have …keeps the wind away and the warmth in…..
