For the last few weeks, my Peace Lily has been droopy and sad. I got it from my mom, and it is about 10 years old. I repotted it to the pot in the photo (it does have drainage), and changed the soil about a week ago, and the roots all looked good, there was no rot or anything like that. It gets about 4-6 hours of indirect sun a day, and I test the soil regularly with a meter to make sure it has enough moisture, it gets watered every 1-2 weeks depending on the meter readings. Any ideas what could be causing it to be so sad?

It’s a drama queen. Peace lillies are notorious drama queens. Too much water, too little water, too much light, not enough light, repotted… and they immediately let their leaves hang.

For all their dramatic effort they are remarkably resilient though. Give her a bit of time and she should come back around

  2. Drama queens who are thirsty af. I sometimes water mine twice a week even in winter.

When they droop, water thoroughly. Like a lot.

It could also just be going through shock. Moving from one house to another, and then being repotted will each take some recovery time depending on how drastic the change is. I second just giving it time! Good luck!

You may be overwatering, especially with a pot that deep. Make sure to really drench it and then wait for the leaves to droop slightly to water again.

If you only use a small amount of water, then it needs to be watered thoroughly.

You just repotted, so it needs a minute to recover from minor root damage. Keep the soil slightly moist. Not wet, not dry, and give it time to repair itself. You did nothing wrong. In the future, the most gentle way of removing old soil is to swish it around in a bucket of water.

Forget the moisture meter. Give it a full soak – a FULL SOAK – when the top inch or two is dry

When you water, water thoroughly and then let it dry out between waterings. A lot of people call them dram queens but, hot take, they’re not. They tell you when they need watered. Thats an easy flag to me. Here are some helpful tips that I share around this sub:

“I’m copying ant pasting from another post I commented this on. This plant needs a serious watering. It will bounce back in a few hours. However, potted indoor peace lily plants like to dry out between watering! They do not like to be damp or you’ll be blackening on the leaves. This can be in the form on black spots or blackened ends. Here you go:

As long as it doesn’t get direct light, especially warm afternoon direct light it should be fine. Some fun facts about peace lily:

    • They like their dirt slightly acidic. You can water them once a month with diluted black coffee to keep the dirt acidic and prevent burnt leaf tips

    • They like to be slightly root bound to produce flowers. They will stop producing flowers when they grow too large, are too root bound, and need divided as a result of their excess growth.

    • They do okay in mild climates, think PNW, in low light but will grow slower

    • They’re generally pest resistant but can be subject to fungus gnats with overwatering, which leads me to my last point

    • They usually tell you when they need watered (potted versions like to dry out between waterings). They will start to wilt at the neck, the spot between the leaf and the “stalk” and the dirt will be dry in inch or two below the soil surface.Let them go too long without watering and they can kind of look like what’s pictured, where the stalks start to drop. They need good drainage so they don’t sit in damp water or the leaves will blacken.

Ask me anything anytime. I’ve had the same (large variety) plant in my family for over 25 years, divided and gifted to friends and currently have 6 in my apartment, 2 at my bfs, and 5 still over at my parents house.”

    Lily isn’t appearing so peaceful.

Such dramatics. She obviously studied with Meryl.
