I got this ficus elastica tineke from home Depot about two weeks ago. I only watered it a little when I first got it (about 250ml of water) and then bottom watered it when I noticed the browning really spreading on the leaves (the dirt was dry to touch from the top) which was about two days ago. I also have it near the balcony doors, which face south, and it also gets light from some grow lights I have over top (not fully direct light as they're aimed at my other plants higher up, but it still gets quite a lot of light from it ).

I'm wondering if this may be a fungus and I need to get something for it ?
Or if it is watering/light issue?

Unfortunately just settling in, this happens with mine when I change anything kinda big, light up-pot, etc. the variegated areas just seem to be prone to giving it up quick.

Don’t think it’s fungal but if it keeps on dropping leaves over the next two months a repot might be in order. Maybe even just chop and prop the top. This has been my convention for some reason. Letting the plant develop all new growth for its new home seems to help in the long run with fussier plants and weird nursery soil.

  2. I know you said you’ve got this in a south facing window with grow lights… but this is exactly what happens to tinekes in low light. Are the brown spots on the side of the plant away from the windows?
