Found it by a trash can on the streets, looks a little battered up but isn’t it pretty? Who could anyone throw it away? Any tips on how to take care of it?

Beautiful! Looks like a Philodendron. They are tropical, so bright indirect light, warmth and humidity are key. The house I bought 3 years ago came with a variation of this; as long as you take care of it, it grows like crazy.

Im not sure of the scientific name, but it’s a split leaf philodendron. Probably the easiest plant in my collection. I’ve had mine for about 6 years and it tolerates whatever lighting conditions it’s in. It will still grow slowly in low light, but will grow out of control with med-bright light. It’s tolerant to drought and overwatering. I water every other week and it’s currently in low light with three new leaves. Its largely leaves do seem to collect dust, so I just wipe down all the leaves about once a month to make sure it can absorb nutrients properly. Great find!

Probably someone was just moving and didn’t want it BUT i would thoroughly check for pests because that may be the reason it was tossed….but my bet is that someone just didn’t love it anymore.

It’s a thaumatophyllum, check out r/itsathaumatophyllum for useful care info. Previously categorised as a philodendron, but that’s now been changed, also sometimes confused with Monstera.

What a score! Mine’s taken over the front window and is ginormous. Excellent suggestions above regarding care. I’m not a great parent but it’s thriving anyway.

It’s hard to say from this picture, but zooming in on that new leaf, it looks like there may be mealy bugs. I’m seeing small white spots on the leaf. I would check just to be sure. It could just be the lighting of the picture.
