  1. We have been off grid for about 30 years now and have had just about every generator there is. We have solar and windmills. By far the most economical and always dependable has been a light tower generator. The ones they use on construction sites. They are diesel and run all day consistently. Very cheap to run compared to the others. You can pick them up used on line, for about $2,500. Seems like a lot but worth every penny. Winter can be gray for a few days in a row, so you need back up. Hope this helps. Love Ya all, Patty from SE Idaho.

  2. I had two beds with sunchokes. I dug up one and replanted the other. The bed that I thought I had dug up, grew much bigger, better chokes. The one I replanted was too crowded and it stunted their growth.

  3. Teach the boys how to edit videos, and create their own YouTube channel. Lol and be camera 📷 men for mom and dad.. the skills

  4. Are any of your kids learning a foreign language? I regret not taking advantage of the courses in school. So now Im in my late 20s and trying to learn Mandarin Chinese.

  5. There is a really interesting history involving Native American stories (and jokes) associated with the JA! It was once proclaimed to be the vegetable of the future aimed at replacing potatoes… until they realized the gastrointestinal consequences.

  6. You two crack me up! I was talking to one of my nieces about how cooking is chemistry one time and she goes "Oh so it's just alchemy like your herb stuff". 🤣🤷‍♀I wish I could cook with all my Littles and not so Littles more because it teaches them so many things all at once.

  7. The first week of homeschool was so rough for us. It was our first year ever (3rd and 4th grade). They literally told everyone they hated it the first week. I felt defeated and mentally exhausted. BUT once we found our groove we all loved it and I’m so thankful we stuck it out!! It’s literally the best ever.

  8. Ya y'all keep taking our winter! 🤨😜 They keep talking about freezing temps and saying we are going to be 6 degrees and I'm like dude we have already had -6 real temp this winter. We better get some moisture at some point cause we are so dry!

  9. Been growing Jerusalem Artichokes for many years. Any little tuber, hair root will sprout into a new plant. Keep them away from your garden areas as they will creep deep and pop up where you don't want them. Been working 3 years to get them out of an area. When they pop up in the early spring and summer we pull the new shoot. We have a very established bed 20 foot by 2 foot that we grow in front of our duck run for shade protection. In the winter when we can dig the soil we pull a bunch up. Some of ours are the size of a dinner plate. Our chickens and ducks love them. They make a great food all winter for them with there layer pellets. We do eat a large amount of them. Ferment them and shred on a salad, make like a potato pancake or just roast them. I also like to make soup with them. If you have never eaten them, start with a small bit and work your way up to consume more. You can also eat them raw. If your immune system is good you probably won't have an issue with gas.

  10. I loved how y'all included the part with the fart jokes and the that's what she said jokes. Some people would of edited them out to put up a more perfect façade, but you decided to keep it in. To me it shows that y'all are people to with the same sense of humor as a lot of people. Loved the video like always and I'm look forward to the next one like always!

  11. Up here in west central Minnesota we are in an “Extreme Cold Weather Warning” until the end of Tuesday. Monday’s HIGH temp here is going to be -14 degrees. 😖😳 Why do I live here!?!🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤔🤔

  12. I was channeling my inner gardener today. I started half of the first round of seeds for my spring garden! Tomorrow, I will start the second half. I am growing a bunch of new things and I am excited to see how they do. Thanks for all of your knowledge and inspiration to just keep trying. I needed it more this year. Long story. Hugs, Zanna.

  13. I have heard that if you ferment them it reduces their gas-producing qualities. I have not tried it myself.

  14. My Dad who was born during the Great Depression had a saying that I think you would like. Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. I thought you might like that.

  15. I heard Jerusalem artichokes can be invasive–guess that would be good for your purposes! Could you let us know how you cook them? Blessings, Janet

  16. My experience with Jerusalem Artichokes was fairly shortlived. They were planted in a 2 foot square area next to a fence line. In two years, they had moved down about 20 feet. Some people (ME) would call them invasive. But, no gastric distress.

  17. Jerusalem artichokes produce so many more tubers than you would eve think possible. Don't know f the will be able to make it to the surface of that ring if you top it full before the growing season though. Got my first greenstalk this week. I have been planning on what to put in it for the spring and summer season. I got the mixed kit with 3 original and 3 leaf tiers. That six seed starting kits will be perfect for those.
