My greenhouse is no where near a spigot and I would hate to run 50ft hose across so I was thinking about installing some type of rain capture/water container with a pump type unit where I can still run an automatic watering system.

A gutter and rain barrel system is going to be your best bet if you don’t want to pay a plumber to run a new line.

  2. I have a modified version of this system.

It works great, just have to keep the PVC drained during the winter. I supplement with a pump for irrigation, this same channel has a great irrigation setup using the same system.

I installed gutters on each side that feed into each barrel. I’ll be installing a low-pressure drip system soon (I’m going to have beds on either side of the greenhouse). The gutters were really easy to add and not expensive. This pic is before I got the flex hose to go from the downspout connector on the gutter to the barrel tops. I may add a third barrel depending on how well collection goes (I’ve only had one rain so far, and I didn’t realize the spigots came “open” so it all drained out!🤦‍♀️).
