Thanks Laura! I loved your suggestion last year (I think) to get little herb plants from the grocery this time of year. 😀 I'm growing rosemary and mint in the kitchen. Just a little peek of what's to come! Excited to go through my seeds and see what I can winter sow. I too want to just be intentional this year and use what seeds I already have! Happy winter! 🙂
Laura, thankyou so much for doing the next thing I. your planting year…each time I watch the winter sowing I add to my knowledge and courage …maybe next year….( this goes for all the things you repeat when it's time to be doing them each year…)
Glad you have another packet of the rose seed, just in case!
Thank you Laura! I’m definitely going to try this. Are there any seeds you would not recommend with winter sowing method? I’m in Zone 10a.
Always love when you do this Laura ❤️ It reminds us to start also. This year, I'm going to try out the winter sowing method. We just got a new greenhouse, but not completely put together yet.
Do you wash your seed starter trays between sowing?
Awesome video
❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this seed sowing tutorial! Question… while the Mesto has such an elegant mist, would a spray bottle work to gently water?
Given that one has space, why couldn’t you use the jugs, but sow later and put them under grow lights in a cold frame so that you wouldn’t have to water so often? 5a lots of snowfalls I don’t go out in anymore.
QUESTION; What seed starting mix or better yet, what in the heck should a gardner mix together to make a descent SEED-STARTING mix??? I've tried 4 different ones around Dallas/Fort Worth area. They have all been sadly lacking !!! It's very depressing to watch you and Jenny (Creekside) open your millions of bags of potting soil, Seed-starting mix and Land and Sea compost. Heck yeah….I'm jealous !
Regarding "toss the cap step" – I started saving my caps in an old vase, when spring comes and I'm planting up my outdoor pots, I slide a few underneath as cheap "pot feet", to help protect my wood deck and facilitate drainage! Starting my winter sow jugs for 2025 this weekend, can't wait!
I’m so excited to start using winter sowing method. I’ve never done it before & I don’t have room for lights and racks.
Once again, I'm reminded I have not saved water jugs for winter sowing.
I so hope the rose seed sprouting works with the winter sowing method! I have never seen roses grown from seed.
Hi! Ive been wondering where is Cheddar??? I see Russell and Douglas all the time. Love you and your videos!
Laura you taught me about winter sowing about 3 years ago and in my zone 3 climate been trying to research all the good plants that can handle it, its been a fun experiment to see what works for me 🙂 every year i pair it down to the ones i had success with the year before.
Where can I buy these seed starting tray?
Oh, Laura, and other friends of the site – I'm on holiday. Yesterday with Douglas, and today with Russell, they each moved around a table or chair on my screen and I actually turned to look for them at my doorway where I was sitting in the sunshine and warm breeze!
I'm in Colorado and have very minimal success with winter sowing but I'm going to try again this year. I have needed to water additionally so we'll see.
Love Laura ! Always good hugs!❤😊❤
Yay winter sowing. Been watching you for years and I still love watching you do the jug winter sowing!!! Don’t ever stop, please 😊 it motivates me to start my own. Thank you ❤
Where is Cheddar?
❤😊 Thank U for Sharing Ur Joy's with Us, All Beautifully Chores, Great way to start my day, Again Thank's ❤😊
EASIER THAN TAPE for a WS container — punch 2 holes near the edge of the top & bottom, opposite from the handle, and connect with a twist-tie. You know it'll be secure. No need to worry about having a little air gap around the edge, at least not in our zone 6.
Hi! I want to try this method. Couple of questions: what should be the outdoor temperature range to start it? Should the lids be screwed on or left open? Thanks!
Would be great to use gloves when dealing with vermiculate since agricultural vermiculate may contains asbestos and if it use regularly like in seed planting ( i do too, as well) may have long term health consequences. Just a simple precaution
I like to use blue painters tape and put a tag inside. Because sometimes the outside disappears.
❤
The rose could be a nice in the background project. I had Renee’s Garden Angel Wings start growing (long after I had given up) after leaving it outdoors. Grew it for a few years.
😂
I love watching you do these tasks. It is so satisfying to see seeds planted and watching the progress of plants. What a peaceful and fun video. Have a blessed day everyone.
Thanks for refresher on winter seed starting! I am starting the gramma grass and blue hyssop. Have waited a bit later to start because of the arctic visitor we are having. If we get above 27 it is a relief. Also last frost date in Michigan is near end of May if we are lucky!
Seems like just yesterday watching the last wintersowing here !
Thank you for sharing. Can you use vermiculite even if your not keeping your seeds in a green house under lights? Will it be fine if the tray is left outside?
Another highly toxic for Humans and pets. Plants from seed to the whole plant. Stem, flowers, leaves. Roots everything about this plant. Cardiac Glycosides which can slow heart rhythm low blood pressure. Stop your heart. Wouldn't plant that in my yard and again p
with the winter method, what it there's frost will the seeds survive
As always, thanks for sharing!🙏❤️
Those penstemon are so pretty! Question about the Pink Petticoat Columbine ~ when and how long will those bloom? I’m trying to decide between those and the Fall In Love Sweetly anemone. I’d like something that blooms for quite a bit of the growing season.
Congratulations on coming in #1 on the gardening channel survey conducted by hooked & Rooted. You deserve the rating!
Laura I wondered if you have ever met Linda Vater? I really think a collab with the two of you would be awesome! Perhaps? Pretty please?
Please stop adding -ish to words. I realize that from watching older videos, you've been saying it, so it's more like a habit. But, please stop. 😊
You INSPIRED me. I stopped the video, went out, and winter sowed pink cosmos, Zinnias, strawflowers, and BLUE GRAMA GRASS! ❤
Can you carry the green seed starting tray in your store? Please. Can’t find it anywhere
could you have done winter sowing method for the foxglove?
Question, do you wash and sterilize the seed starter pots every year for use the following year, I do and I wonder if I can get away not doing that it would save me a lot of time..
Mmm I can just smell those lovely herbs😌. You used the liquid fertilizer, is that why you didn’t use biotone starter?
I sent some Fearie Queen foxglove seeds out to you. I'm hoping they actually make it there. Lol. I didn't write "seeds" on the envelope. I probably should have.
Those are MASSIVE and gorgeous pink foxgloves with an ombre type effect. They're amazing.
