It surprised me how quickly you responded to my previous post. Thank you! I do mulch them and have a drip system from my rain barrels (that is from run off of my gutters) and give them extra water when I can. Which I have to do more often on the lower teir ones. All of the beds are in direct contact with the "yard". No weed barrier or pans. I amend the soil in winter; usually through planting ground cover plants and then turning it under before I plant in the new year. I'm going to do as you suggested and give them a bit of liquid fertilizer because I never really thought about the life in the soil as you mentioned ❤. You also mentioned "compaction problems " inhibiting the natural Micro organisms and now I think that's another reason my beds, over the years have been less and less productive. Again, thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge with us!!
