  1. No plant is able to pick up atmospheric Nitrogen and fix it on to their tissue.
    Nitrogen fixing is done by bacteria that live in the roots of leguminous plants. It is this bacteria that transform nitrogen into a form which plants can use (NH3 or NH4). When the plant dies and decomposes, it is able to feed other plants as the Nitrogen that was fixed on their tissue becomes available again.
