And we have them in most yards with full sun.
Your cats are gonna love the ponytail palm! I buy that plant specifically for my cats and they love it
I have had my Ponytail Palm at least 15 years. She is now 8 foot tall with a bulb about 20 in. across. Careful with the Sago. All parts are highly poisonous.
Excellent video- as usual.🥰
?: Would the leaf from the philodendron root easily?
The sago palm (Cycas revoluta) can withstand negative temperatures as long as they are brief. It also tolerates direct sunlight. I have several planted in full sun in central Portugal without any issues.
Why don't you like to use plastic trays under plants?
Laura, the sago palm is toxic to humans and animals. Also, especially if in the ground can really get massive and very hard to remove. I know from experience with them!!
As usual….you nailed it, Miss Laura! Question/request: i know you say you're not as interested in house plants, but when you show us where you place plants relative to available lighting in regular living scenarios, it sure is helpful. Have you addressed that very much in past videos?
P.S. kudo's to your shared Christmas gift~you two deserve it!
I wish I could attach photos to my comment – I’m in FL and my ponytail palm is outside and about 12 feet tall. The ball is a good 4 feet too.
Laura, I love your videos. BUT I'm in SC, Sago palms are a dime a dozen. They are poisonous to humans, and ANIMALS, Russell, & Douglas may chew on them? All parts are poisonous.
I wish I could post a Pic here, but we recently moved to zone 9B Florida from Massachusetts, and there are 4 giant plants in the yard surrounding a date palm. I had no idea what it was and was absolutely shocked to learn they are philodendron! They're 7 feet tall and even wider!!!! I had no idea they could get that big! 😂
Hey Laura! Thank you for all your education and keep doing you!!! just a heads up on the Sago Palm… We have beach cottages in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and my aunt was repotting her Sago Palm and spent quite a few weeks in the hospital and almost lost her arm. The medical team tracked it back to the Sago Palms prick. I mean, let’s be real, we stick our hands in stuff all the time but just FYI.
❤
Lovely assortment of house plants❤ It's delightful to watch your videos, keep them coming😍😄
Hi Laura gorgeous plants. Here in the central valley Ca zone 9b we grow sago and ponytail palms out doors full sun no problem. We get down to 32 in the winter and up to as high as 115 in the summer with summer temps from June through sometimes September consistently 100+ with little to no cooling at night. Last year we were still warm in October. My ponytails are in pots outside. Most people’s sago’s are in ground.
Love the plants❤🪴☀️
I live in Florida and the Sago palms are planted in direct sunlight.
THAT CHAIR… Yes please!
Hi Laura, we live in San Antonio, sego palms grow easily here. We have extremely alkaline soil in clay no less and segos thrive. They also thrive in direct Texas sunlight as well as have survived polar vortexes uncovered. Ours grew to well over 7 feet. I’m not sure of the info you received regarding their care.
I honestly dislike sego palms greatly. We still have one left the we will probably remove. They are very toxic but they are dangerously sharp and they have scared me more than once. Please be super careful with your kids, I know they are smart and don’t mess with your plants, but we’ve had kids trip and fall into them and get injured by them so please be cautious.
Best always! 😊 Vicki
Hi Laura. Replay
Lots of pretty plants !
We cover sagos when the temps are going to get 27 degrees or lower. It is quite a chore to cover once they get big. Sometimes the fronds torn brown anyway and we cut them off. Every April the new fronds come out. I wish I could upload a photo of the cover my husband created. Zone 8b Texas
I have had 2 ponytail palms and love them. You may need to have neem oil handy. We are zone 8 so not sure about your zone but they can be prone to common pests like mealybugs, scale insects, and spider mites, which are frequent invaders of this plant. (I copied part of that from google) Great job and love all the dinosaurs gearing up for battle 🙂
Sago Palms are HIGHLY poisonous to animals and humans
This is a random question! I tried to find the video where you were on the front porch of your home. You mentioned the ferns by the front door were actually faux ferns and how you were so pleased with them. I don’t remember if you mentioned where you purchased them. Could you please let me know. Thank you!!
Lovely houseplants. Seeing the rod iron fence near your outdoor seating area, I'm reminded to ask if you've ever considered Kenilworth Ivy (Cymbalaria muralis) on it? It likes sun to part shade and blooms profusely. Very delicate looking, but hardy to zone 5a. The seating would be ideal as it could be observed close up so the orchid-like blooms could be appreciated.
Do you think that Sago Palm is about eye level with Samantha Grace? I worry about her being hurt. She's such a sweet soul.❤
I have 5 sagos that I and my dad put on pallets in the winter. They have to be moved with a tractor. I inherited them from my husband’s grandfather when he passed 18 years ago. He had them for about 50 years. They only get put in the barn when it is below 29. They also get watered twice a day in July and August.they are in well draining soil. I cut off all the fronds in March.that is about my last frost date. They grow to the size pot you have them in. Bigger the pot the bigger the plant gets. I live in zone 8 b.
When you’re potting plants and using an empty pot to fill in around it, does it ever collapse on you before you put the plant in the pot?
the table next to the toy box does that table open up and have extra boards inside the table? I have one almost like it it so cool ! 6 boards slide on the inside
Sago grow everywhere here in costal Alabama. Use to be one of my favs now I am taking a break. Yours potted up beautifully! If it gets to large I completely think it could thrive in your greenhouse! (with provided shade)
The ponytail palm was gorgeous.
Hi Laura! I have a philodendron that I’ve had for almost 20 years and the roots area above the soil and circle the pot. Can I cut those back or should I add more soil to cover them? Thanks for all you do!
THAT CHAIR!!!!
