New to airplants but not plants in general. I've looked at a few older posts and based on those I think I may have failed to properly dry my new airplant. I got him 3 weeks ago from a local nursery, soaked him for 15 minutes (full submersion), let him hang upside down overnight, then misted twice a week. He lives on my desk next to a south facing window, but out of any harsh direct light.

Now, I live in a city where it's humid enough mushrooms can grow in your closet under the right circumstances, which is why I'm concerned about not drying properly. This seems to be a hollow bulb kinda plant and although it feels solid and not mushy I'm worried about the brownness at the bottom. None of the leaves come off with a gentle tug but the bulb looks worryingly black/brown in places. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

When you submerge it, is it upside also like when you dry it?

These ones are super hard to tell because sometimes these look totally natural with the brown base and sometime it is caused by rot. In this case, I don’t think it is rot.

Plants whitout roots can’t get root rot.

Edit: oh come on folks, here is the obvious “/s” you all seem to need.

This confuses me lol. If it is so humid in your city that you can potentially grow mushrooms, then I would be concerned about it not drying out properly.

Ambient humidity plays a huge role and is a big factor with these guys. Example, doing extra dishes in the sink can raise the ambient humidity to a degree that’s just too much on top of your plants regular watering schedule. So with that being said, I think dunking and misting is too much on top of your humid environment.

This one appears to be a xeric type, which requires less moisture in its natural environment.

Also regarding the base, I would be concerned about the browning as well as the little hole where the leaves meet the root end. Keep it where the root end isn’t contained in a cup or an enclosed display as they do need adequate airflow around the base.
