So who doesn’t love a good lawn?
I just moved in (prob best tenant ever) planning on renovating this yard. Didnt know what gopher holes looked like when viewing; lol.
Always learning but here’s what I’ve done since moving in.
1. A wave of roundup
2. Major weed whacking
3. Gopher gassers
4. My new 16” 15.5a scarifier I got for Xmas 🎅🏼
5. Landzie leveling rake (to even out where all the mounds and pits were)
I’m actually quite impressed with how level I was able to make the yard just from the scarifier. I didn’t use the scarifier the way you would on an active lawn though, I kept hitting the same spots over and over trying to break up compacted soil, roots, fill gopher holes, break up dried gopher mounds, and then use my leveling rake to smooth out the existing soil. I also took the time to “pull” dirt up to the edges of the sidewalk with the scarifier so I could level them out and get rid of all the ankle rollers we had.
Would love to know any thoughts, advice, criticisms (there was probably a better way)
I have a ton of rocks now that I’m sure were brought to the surface by the gophers, would love to know any tricks to get them out!

Looking good. What will you be planting?
Two thoughts off the top of my head:
1) If you haven’t done a soil test, this is a great time to do one. If there are any major issues, they’re way easier to fix when you’re starting over than if you have grass already.
2) Depending on the timing and exactly where you are, your RoundUp might not have done much. It’s sweet spot is 60-90F on weeds that are active, so you might have a lot of dormant stuff hanging out there still.
