In this video, I share my favorite places to buy seeds for a garden. If you are new to seed starting, it can be hard to find trustworthy seed companies. What are the best places to buy seeds online? Where can you find quality seed with high germination rates? Which seed companies should I avoid? What about mislabeled seeds and other scams? I love to buy seeds for a vegetable garden from these people! These seed exchanges are legitimate businesses selling true seeds for reasonable prices and have excellent customer service.
NOTE: This is not a list of best seed companies. I have not ordered seed from *every* company out there, so I cannot say which seed company is best. “Best” is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, these 10 seed sellers are honest companies with great reputations that I have ordered from with excellent results, so this is a great starting point for new gardeners that are new to starting seed.

I love you Chanel. I am in zone 7 in Virginia. I use some of the companies that you use. I would like to add Jungseed ,too . I use them for couples years and I had very good luck with their seeds.
Victory Seeds
Jarra’s Garden
Southern Seeds
High Mowing Co
Shepherding peppers farm
Hoss
Seeds n Such
Native Seed Search
Wild Boar Farms
I love johnnys seeds because their seed packs have sooooo much info on them. They are pricey tho. I have never heard of tomato growers so I just registered to get my free catalog. Looking forward to getting it and for 2025!
I really appreciate the TOC for your videos like this but wish you would include the seed/company/etc for each segment, not just the number. Much easier to find what's important to us.
Dude you should check out True Leaf Market. There's more than one seed company that sells through them, so it's basically a joint project. Huge variety especially on the greens side.
I was going to suggest Hoss too. Just tried them last year and so far so good!! Also I agree with all the others who suggest MIGardener. They are the first seed company I send my friends, that I have talked into grow at least a little bit, to. Great Selection! Great Prices! And Honestly when I really got back into growing and the garden in 2020 I bought seeds from MIGardener. I still have some of those seeds and yes I am still getting decent germination from some of them!
My local library has a free seed exchange😍
I have found that the descriptions on Baker Creek to be very sloppy and somewhat deceptive. On many varieties the germination rate is often poor. I stopped buying from them a few years ago.
EXCELLENT CONTENT! Living in Tallahassee, I purchase from many of these seed suppliers. Take care and be safe…
Looking forward to seeing what Tomatoes & Peppers you're rolling with for the season.
I'm sorry White Tomesol didn't fare well with you. I wouldn't give up on it tho… Sometimes mine will have an 'off' season but when it hits – it hits.
I don't trust baker creek after the GMO tomato fiasco. I use Hoss, Johnny's, Botanical interests, and Burpee. In southern AZ, hybrids do best. I love MI Gardner, but heirlooms don't do well in the desert.
Burpee seed is now available at our local Ocean State Job Lots at a great low price. The new ones just came in and our local store never move the seeds outdoors. The ones that we love for western MA are tendersweet carrots (when I can find them) and sugarsnax carrots when I can't , sweet 100 hybrid & brandywine & black cherry tomatoes, black beauty zucchini, hot Hungarian peppers, and their big guy hybrid jalapeno peppers that are great for stuffing and for pickling.
I had horrible luck last year with sese. they took almost 2 months to ship my seeds and had no customer support. Phones would ring with no answer, they never replied to email. I had to do a chargeback, before I finally heard from them. They did ship the seeds then, but just a word of caution if you use them… they may be better now, but I saw many a negative review from the same purchase window last year on their facebook, and now they have reviews turned off. Just be careful. They may be great this year, but this was my experience.
I would highly reccomend checking out Holmes seeds and seed savers. Holmes had a GORGEOUS catalog and amazing support. They are a small family run business and have an amazing selection. Seed Savers was also great along with FEDCO and Victory seeds.
I really like Park Seed out of Greenwood SC
Territorial seed is where i mainly get my laurel bay trees from. Its my second time one of the bay tree died but the other one is thriving. This year i plan on leaving them inside during harsh heat in the summer 😢😢 i left one out and it got roasted. But this year i plan on doing it the right way lol
UH, January is everywhere now. lol
Jungs seeds
Southern Exposure — my (literally) backyard seed company! No better acclimatizing of the crops possible! ❤
Check out Berlin Seed! It’s an Amish seed company with a huge variety of everything including a lot of classic favorites. I tried them for the first time last year and germination was very decent – to be fair it was my first year. I expect better production this year with some experience under my belt and the advice of our favorite gardening guy 😉
Anyone purchase from therustedgarden ? Gary pilarchak or something. Has a YouTube channel too. He has seeds but never tried them yet. He is very knowledgeable in gardening like millennial here
Question, I'm preparing new containers (5 gallons) for use in April when I transplant my seedlings. I've heard you say organic fertilizer takes a long time to break down in containers. With that in mind, can i add organic fertilizer to my potting mix NOW while they are sitting in my garage waiting for spring? My thinking is that by April, the fertilizer will be broken down and available for use by the plant. I won't be watering them or anything because I just have potting mix only in the containers. Thanks.
Hi I am newer to gardening andI am trying to figure out what to plant in the ten gallon fabric grow bags that I had watermelon in last season. My melons did not grow to big and most were not edible. My guess is the were over crowded and did not receive nearly enough nutrients. At this point the soil is probably lacking enough nutrients to plant water melon there again. Any recommendations for what I should do?
You are the reason I’m going to try burpee this year!😊
I did not know about Tomato Growers. Thanks for that tip. Every one else you listed, I have tried and have few complaints. For me, Totally Tomatoes is probably the slowest shipper. Johnny's is one of the fastest – but their shipping costs are higher than many – so pick yer poison, right? Great video – thank you.
ive used true market seeds.they are very good not had a problem with any of their seeds ive bought
Wow Luke I was just about to post about MIGardener you beat me to it
Thanks for the store ideas; will definitely check them out. Would love to see a video on your favorite varieties for each main vegetable group. You mentioned a few in a tomato video in the past. I know the varieties are zone dependent but I'm always willing to try a great fruit, even if I'm not in the perfect zone.
I am very interested in the small garden behind you
Lower Alabama, looking for recommendations for best determinate paste tomato and early as possible pickling cucumber.
I already started Bounty Banana peppers that you recommended, 3" tall now, thanks.
This was a great video!
What are your thoughts on the Norfolk purple galaxy tomato? It was on the cover of baker creek seeds, but they dropped it from their lineup entirely because they wont carry GMO. Would you feel comfortable growing it in your garden? Are they playing God?
I got stuck on the heirlooms open pollinated plants when I started gardening. Then I tried an f1 roma and ya I'm not looking back lol.
I live in California.
My indeterminate Tomatoes are still alive.
Baker creek is loved by all sorts of people.
In the past I have had good experiences with cherry tomatoes and roma tomatos.
I have ordered from Hoss in the past.
My cabbage is kind of lanky!
Wall Mart or Lowes store is where I usually buy seed from.
I usually find cool seed indoor areas !
Thank you – for future, if you could share the links for the companies we came here to learn about that would be very helpful. There are lots of other links but not the ones the title indicates we are coming for. Appreciate the info on the F1 suppliers too since that is something many of us would want to stay hella far away from. Thank you for your time!
Watch for seeds at the big-box stores. At the end of season in 2024, Menards, Lowes and Home Depot had many many seeds at tremendous discount. BTW all seeds were on racks inside.
I’m almost exclusively ordering from Urban Farmer. I really, really don’t like baker creek for both their website name and layout, it’s hard to find what I want.
We do have a local farm store that has tons of seeds, plant starts, trees and more. Sometimes they’ll discount their seed packets later in the season.
Sow true seeds out of Asheville. Had great success from them and eden brothers
MIGARDENER is wonderful! One of my favorites ❤
