  1. I haven't read The New Wild but I have read Nature's Best Hope and there is a ton of scientific evidence in there that supports using only native plants in the landscaped garden. Letting non-native invasives proliferate in our unique ecosystem reduces overall biodiversity because it reduces the carrying capacity of the land. Wildlife cannot evolve fast enough to adapt to alien species and the human impact has occurred in an evolutionary blink of an eye. Native plants support the food web and we still stand a chance to preserve many species who evolved to specialize on the consumption of certain native plants and the caterpillars they host.
