My 4000 square foot planting now has huge critter dirt mounds. Arg, I’m over seeding those areas . Anybody else dealing with this problem?

don’t know how to put photo titled critters together with my request for help

Do you think they’re moles or gophers?

I have nothing but very compacted clay soil, so unfortunately I don’t have any advice. My native garden visitors are normally cottontail rabbits and field mice. 😕

Hopefully someone else can answer your question!

How about a photo that accurately shows the problem you’re having?
All i see is a critter trail

Generally the gopher, mole and vole have distinct differences between their mounds of dirt piles.

Hopefully they are a native species that is enjoying your garden!!! Many small tunneling mammals create habitat for a multitude of different species! They are ecosystem engineers! 😁

I feel like this is a sign you’re doing something right! More critters might mean more birds of prey soon which would cut their numbers back down
