WE BOUGHT SOME LAND! 5-acres in South Italy to be exact…
We are Emily & Roberto. Welcome to our FIRST YouTube video 😃.
Join us on a fascinating 5-acre land tour in Southern Italy, where we’re building a sustainable homestead and restoring abandoned land to its former glory. Our journey towards self-sufficient living is filled with DIY projects, permaculture design principles and a passion for preserving the agricultural heritage of rural Italy. Take a stroll with us through our massive garden, where our olive trees thrive and where we will build an off-grid water system in the future.
We’ll show you our tiny house living arrangements and the the old stone ruins.
From renovating old stone ruins to implementing effective land conservation techniques, we’re dedicated to creating a thriving ecosystem that works in harmony with nature. If you’re interested in homesteading, sustainable living and off the grid adventures, you won’t want to miss this inspiring tour of our Italian homestead.
We bought this land from a charming Italian couple, whose family built the house generations ago. Their ancestors once called the now-abandoned stone ruins home, weaving a deep history into the land.
Come along as we take you on a full tour of our beautiful 5-acre property in southern Italy, where we live in a tiny house surrounded by 60 olive trees, 3 abandoned stone ruins and lots of wildlife.
While we’re not starting any garden or DIY projects in this video, you’ll get a first, detailed look at our charming and beautiful land that will soon provide us with fruits, vegetables and more.
Our homestead goal is to create a thriving, beautiful land, influenced by permaculture, that is bursting with life that will fully sustain us in the future. We aim to live a much simpler life here, connecting back to nature and our surroundings.
Follow along on our journey as we move towards living simply, being off-grid and embracing homesteading in the south of Italy.

You need to do this when you're young, especially since the south of Italy has no healthcare system to speak of.
Great that you have your own water supply. That's by far the most important asset.
Love it.
Hello from South Africa. So excited for you guys, what a beautiful place. Looking forward to following your journey guys ❤
Seeing the drone footage of you making your way to the ruins really helps a person to understand just how the land elevation changes in such a dramatic way. Really great seeing the distance from above.👍
Hello and welcome to Italy!
Which province do you live in?
Huge challenge indeed. Have to warn you, your land in its current state is one big Fire Hazard. Sooner you cut back on those dry grass and trees the better
HELLO
NEW SUBSCRIBER LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN US AS WELL CENTRAL PORTUGAL 🇵🇹 😊
Exciting time in your lives, so much to do. You say you will not be there for the olive harvest, are you actually intending to live on the property or is this just a utube project? I like your laid back presenting style and interaction with the camera. There’s much work to do before you start to reap many benefits, I’m sure if you’re willing to put the work in you will end up with a beautiful home.❤
good luck, interesting land
Oh heck yeah – so glad to find you as you start your YouTube journey with your new future homestead! Wishing you all the best in the new year – thanks for sharing and looking forward to your progress! On wild boars, I spend a couple years stationed in Germany in the US Army. Sometimes when we went into the field we encountered wild boars and you can imagine the ridiculous scene of a bunch of soldiers with guns screaming and running away like little children when we encountered an angry sow. I am actually more scared of boars than our local bears 🤐
I've just caught this, this morning (Western Australia 🇦🇺 time), and subscribed immediately, I'm a senior and really enjoy watching young people get out there and work hard to build a new life, so Thank you both, I haven't watched it all as I prefer to watch on my tv, can see and enjoy more ❤
Hello from California. You have a lovely place with lots of potential. ❤ It's so good that your house is livable, which makes things so much easier. 😊
How exciting. Sloping land is a great asset. Have you watched any Water Stories videos? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSoocG8MN3hIz5saOZhZHZQ Sepp Holzer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yc4H-cnl_o Radon is the same name in English.

Removing the fireplaces is not good
Please 🙏 plant the trees too
When I see lime plaster in this country, it’s a sign of the milk room
What type of internet access do you have there?
What a great property and project. Word of advice – get rid of ALL the English/Spanish Broom – it is a massive fire hazard. It is an invasive species here in Tasmania as well and takes over very quickly. The seed pods actually explode in the heat of summer to spread their seeds far and wide. The one good thing about it is that it makes for a great bonfire!

Nice try.so many of these vlogs already.😮
I in Pisticci Casa Esmeralda for 8 years. Come visit. Be paient its work need to dig a deep well. Collect your water for the summer!!! Not alot of income but lots of endless food after 2 years. All the best to you !
Wow, there a bit of work there to do. Suddestion, clean up the best ruin to be able to stay in for volunteers to come and help out. There's so many people that love to do that. All the best with creating your dreams ❤
This could turn into something spectacular.
The combination between permaculture and hospitality is a great way to also earn some money to invest in the homestead again.
But boy you have found a golden opportunity.
My humble advice would be to invest in a small digger and a mini tractor/mower . My past experience has shown me that these 2 tools are incredibly valuable for clearing roads, creating paths, clearing around the ruins etc …
Also I would suggest to start with the roads and clearing the land first.
It is so much easier to bring in materials and such for the construction.
You guys are young. In 5 years you will look back and realize how much you have accomplished. I will follow your journey.
It’s a beautiful place ♥️
Bellissimo 👍👋👋
Good Luck; I am both inspired and jealous.
1:20 perfect farmer outfit😅😅

How much did you have to pay for it?? Is it in Sicily?
Those caves could be great to store your liquid gold from those olive trees 🙂
Be careful with increasing the height of the small ruin #2 because that means you'd be adding built volume which requires all kinds of permissions.
The other cave/cellar could be a perfect summer bedroom, it's most likely a lot cooler than in the house.
Veel succes from Nederland 😊
The potential is huge, congrats 🙂! I'm managing a similar project in the Liguria region. Little suggestion, maybe you did it already but double check the real estate registry of the municipality about the existance, status and compliance of those ruins and caves, before investing time and money in them. I don't know how relaxed the local administration is on building permits but these could be a pain in the ass anyway.
Ciao Ragazzi, complimenti per il progetto che avete pianificato,ci sarà molto lavoro da fare,ma sono certo che da tutto questo uscirà fuori una grande realtà…Avanti tutta!!!
The ugly English name, broom, for the beautiful plant called Ginestra in Italian. It makes beautiful and good smelling yellow flowers.
It could be used for its fiber. There might be companies in Italy that uses it to make fabric. It could be an economic resource.
Think about it before clearing.
Great video. Any footage of your casa? Can you give us an idea of your priorities, like getting the well pump working to water the trees?
Don’t get rid of anything until you run out of space. Many years of knowledge has brought the majority of the items that are there because they were needed and had value. Most important thing you could do is get your soil, healthy. Good luck, young people.
How many hectares?
