Deer can make a lot of problems for a gardener. Deer grazing can damage a lot of plants but there are other issues as well. Deer Rubbing their antlers on trees can severely damage young trees that aren’t large enough to resist losing a portion of bark. That’s why it’s best to protect your newly planted trees for a few years until they grow big enough that deer either won’t bother them or if they do, the trees can tolerate the damage.
To protect trees from deer I use regular garden wire fencing cut into sections that can can wrap in a circle about 3ft in diameter around the trees. This prevents them from eating small trees as well as stopping them from rubbing.
