Welcome Gardeners! Whew! It’s been a year! I can’t believe we moved into this property one year ago. It seems like only last month that we were pulling out the overgrown rose bushes, taking down the palm trees and painting the zig zag planter! Time flies when you are having fun! 🌴 Enjoy!

  1. Another great gardening video, my dear friend as always, you always come up and share so many wonderful things about the garden

  2. You have accomplished so much in one year! You and Jason inspire me to get out in my garden every day. My half acre is nowhere near as planted up as yours, but many of the plants you recommend are going to be in my garden. Thank you for sharing your journey and your gardening community with us!

  3. You have done amazing things in this property! It’s so inspirational to follow along and learn as you plan and plant! I love your plumbago! And, even though I said in my zone 9 video that I just can’t grow them, I planted one this week. I just have to give it another try.😂

  4. In the center island, will you have to remove the wood chips before you add the compost, or can you just add it on top? I have the same problem of bad soil where plants do not grow. I have to amend it. Thank you for your advice.

  5. I can’t love this enough❤ Well done to you all. It’s quite a transformation. Can’t wait for to watch your dream garden come alive 😊

  6. I think your irises will bloom next year. My Irises didn’t bloom the first year I replanted them (I brought them from my Gretna, LA garden 9b), but they bloomed this past spring (April 2024). We moved into our new construction home in Foley, AL ( zone 8b) in October 2022. I started laying down our cardboard moving boxes where I wanted gardens, topped it with compost and pine bark mini nuggets. I started planting in March 2023. Most of what we were able to plant in March 2022 did much better in spring of 2024.

  7. Amazing outturn. I would leave only the ends purple fountain grass from the zigzag flowerbed as the others block the face of your home. Take out and replant the in between purple grasses at the entrance/driveways.

  8. Looking good. I bought a HoeDag tool from Duluth Trading that I saw in one of your videos. It is a super tool. Perfect for my needs and very sturdy. Thrilled that I got it.

  9. I just found your channel after I watched your video with Jenny from Gardening with Creekside. So great to learn about Zone 9 plants that do well in a dry climate. I recall you and Jenny talking about hot and humid versus hot and dry. Amazing progress! Looking forward to tuning in on your journey.

  10. Your gardens look great!! I have lived in the country growing up and now. Leach beds are awesome!! I grow my best plants there. I think you are struggling because you are overwatering. Remember they are leach bed that have lots of moisture. Cut back on your irrigation. I live in Wisconsin and never ever water my leach bed. It has plenty of moisture on its own. I hopes this helps you out in the future. Love your channel!

  11. Wow you've accomplished so much in just a year. You mentioned you get free wood mulch but do you let it decompost a bit so that it doesn't leach nitrogen from your soil? that could be the reason one part of your garden is suffering. Alway let it sit for a least 6 months before putting it by your plants '

  12. Looks absolutely amazing. Congrats!!! PS.. the zig zag planter has really turned out to be a statement piece!

  13. One other thing, the gophers for me have always been bad, but are really bad this year. I've lost hundreds of dollars in plants. Used to only put my roses in baskets but now putting everything in gopher baskets. It's one more thing to do, and expense but worth it. Deer have been killing me this year too – eating stuff they never have before 🙁 🙁 Good luck!

  14. Save the zig zag!❤ Janey, y'all have accomplished so much in such a short time! 🎉🎉🎉 The property looks GREAT!

  15. Just a quick thought about your redbud on the berm that has mildew. possibly the gomphrena is to close around the trunk. possibly with new trees before they are well established they need to be clear around the base for airflow, especially in super hot weather. just an idea. always love your channel. 😀
