How much of a goner is it? It definitely had root rot. It was my partner’s great-grandmother’s Christmas Cactus that had been planted in an African Violet pot for 10+ years. I thought it was starting to look a little malnourished and figured it was rootbound after being in the same small pot for the last 10+ years, but found out it was the exact opposite – all the roots had rotted away
I’m so scared I’m gonna kill it and it’s got a lot of significance to me, so if anyone has any advice for how to bring it back please let me know!
Previous care: it sits in a southwest facing window and occasionally I check to make sure there’s still water in the bottom of the African violet pot. I was scared to repot it and it seemed to be doing well in the pot it was in. Before I got it about 2 years ago, it sat in an east-facing window and she just made sure the bottom of the African violet pot had water in it too. Honestly, I’ve had a rough time mentally the last 2 years, so I didn’t really do much to it even though I knew it needed to be repotted.

I would propogate the healthy stems in water until new roots form
I treated mine like an underwatered succulent for years, and while it wasn’t exactly happy, it lived. Now that we bumped the watering up to… maybe once every week or two, it bloomed. I think you’re overwatering. It should mostly dry out between waterings. No standing water.
But as the other commenter said, rinse the roots and put in a glass of water on the windowsill. Change water every couple days. Once the roots are longer, transfer to new pot.
