  1. Did you know the USDA growing zones were updated last year? Yup! Most zones shifted 1 zone warmer taking me from 8b to 9a but I am still RIGHT on the line between the two zones! This seems to be confusing some but here's the link to find your updated zone! https://phzm-prod.ars.usda.gov/system/files/TX_E150_HS.png Always keep in mind that you know your area best and that these updates are done every 10-11 yrs based on a 30 yr rolling average!

  2. Time to start our tomatoes.

Hard freeze this week…tho covered i dont expect onw brassica to live this year

  3. To tell ya truth im pushing 80.and well if my flowers die im gonna be sad and veggies not so much..im tired all the time now and well its about time i give up gardening..ao ao sad but well i use to cover put lights under it..heat the green house..i cant afford it physically and these days financially..my elderly neighbors depend on the extra veggies…but i really cant do it anymore.

  4. Central Texaaaas is heck on all of my persistant gardening efforts. And yet I keep seed companies, Etsy sellers and my local nursery in business with very little to show for it. So thank you for this channel! I have some plants in grow bags that I bring (buggy critters and all) into my house like my gingers and my tropicals. And I double or triple cover my fig, and Japanese sweet potatoes. My question is, which citrus are you successfully growing in pots which are small enough that you are bringing them indoors as needed?

  5. Thank you for this! I am in new Braunfels and sometimes (especially January) I get so overwhelmed with everything I need to do to get ready for spring.

  6. Growing in Elgin. Great information! In January I will be planting rose seeds that I crossed last spring that have been stratifying in the fridge since harvest. They will be growing on my lighted plant stand..

  7. Hello neighbor! I'm located here in San Antonio. I really liked your video. The real time info was very helpful. I just love it when I find fellow Texas gardens on YouTube. Texas weather is so wild! I still have some tomatoes growing. I know when this hard frost comes my Sun gold and Early girl plants will be toast. Even my pepper & egg plants are still trying to flower. Again, I appreciate your tips on keeping our "babies" warm during hard frost. Also, I love Greek mythology… Winter and Summer solstice

  8. I’m in Houston and celery and leeks are amazing and huge every year! Carrots and lettuce somehow gets eaten by bugs and birds… 🤷🏻‍♀️

  9. Plan to start seeds in Round Rock. I have a heater in my Greenhouse so it does help especially for the current forecast.
    My succulents survived last night😞
    Thanks for the info👍

  10. I love that you are giving central Texas and Austin specific advice. I’m about an hour outside of Austin so it’s great to have advice from someone in about the same area. I’ve lived here my whole life but never heard of the term “Persephone Period”- is that just a Texas thing or what?

  11. I’m so excited that you’re an Austin gardener. Maybe I can follow along and try my hand at gardening this year

  12. I’m in Harker Heights- 8b…. I have never been successful with gardening here in TX. Either the heat kills everything or bugs decimate what little survives. I have had better luck with flowers, but I would love to grow fruits and veggies too! Would love to see what citrus 🍊 trees you have, and what kind of containers you have them in that you can move them into your house😊 would love to see that and how you take care of them ❤
