2025 is going to be my 3e year with a small garden for crops. I still feel like a beginner that so I love the little beginner section, thanks!
Great video thank you! Have you thought about making a complete video about Landraces? I think its a subject that needs a lot more attention, especially for those in search of self-sufficiency.
This last season was my first time to grow okra. I was amazed at how well they did. I will recommend you wear long sleeves when picking though because they make you rather itchy.
Always good to remember at higher latitudes that September sun is the same as March. A sunny spot in June might not see much sun in September. Also here where I live in the spring there are no leaves on the trees yet so that sunny spring. Spot might stay cool and shady for most of the day on the other end of the season. Can't wait for spring!
We've got a brand new garden for 2025 (moving to a 1950s semi!), I used chatgpt to help me organise my raised bed plans and your garden planner which is an AMAZING tool!! Can't wait to see the plans take shape. I've already planted half my garlic into plugs and small pots ready to get in when we move at the end of the month!😅 Thank yoi for your helpful videos, we love them!! ❤
I was sitting in front of a dry erase board getting ready to sketch a garden plan for the coming year when I came upon this. Perfect timing! My husband and I moved in the Spring of last year and didn't have time to get a garden up and running, but I'm pumped for this year. Thanks for the vid!
lol great video, I actually just planned mine yesterday ( kids bought me your garden planner as a gift a few years ago) My dear hubby has said NO MORE Expansion unitl you use every garden bed. Challenge accepted! Check out the planner videos they are amazing and you can publish your garden and share with everyone ! Love and Blessings in the Garden from Ontario Canada🥰
Your winters have been wetter while here in my part of Canada we have had warmer winters than usual. As much as some folks like this as a gardener I know it means more pests in summer since their eggs didn't get killed off by the cold we used to get.
I'm already planning what I will be replanting and what I will be trying for the first time. Spring can't come soon enough!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! As a newbie, you have no idea how hard I’ve looked for EXACTLY a video like this!!! Plus you’re my favorite-you always make me feel like I can actually do this!! (I’m getting there 😝)
Sir, here in the Southern US we call it "oh-kree".
if this isn't the most wholesome youtube channel I don't want to know what is. so considerate, even with the gardenplanner free trial not having to put in payment options is just so friendly. we can all benefit from following this mans gentle and kind example.
Hi Quick question. I am planning my allotment for the coming year and live in Todmorden in a steep sided valley which can be cold. So the question is in your videos when you suggest a date to start sowing things should I add an extra month on to avoid frost damage etc? thank you
Top planning guide!!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Anyone have any buying suggestions for climbing arches like the ones at the very beginning of the video?
Can’t seem to find ones like that!
Thanks! 😊
Thank for sharing
I didn't manage to get much grown this year or last year (what i did grow the slugs ate!). I'm determined to get plenty on the go in 2025.
Time to get planning (can't wait to sort it out and tidy it up.
This time last year i was recovering from surgery ( I'm all good now). It meant a delayed and slow start.
I felt as though i never really got going so i am looking forward to 2025 in my garden and allotment (shared with friends).
Cannot believe how exited i am😂
I'm so glad you're trying okra this coming year! I love its pretty flowers and then finding loads of okra once it gets going in summertime! Keep us informed about how well your okra grows!
I loved your butterfly netting – any chance you could post a link for purchasing it Sate side?
I am looking forward to planting things in my balcony container garden again this year, though I am still months away from planting, seeing as my last frost date isn't until May and I am likely to still be getting snow through mid April.
For the new gardeners out there: listen to Ben on locating your garden as close as possible to a water source. We started a neighborhood garden on some land under power lines last year. Excellent sun exposure (due to no trees under those power lines) BUT closest water source is 400 feet away. Maintaining 400 feet of hose is a nightmare! So many leaks and possible points of failure. Plus, having the garden that far away makes it feel like a real chore to go down there to check on plants (and pests!). Learn from our mistake!
I've finally got an allotment now. It's an absolute tip, but me & my brother are working hard to clear all that JUNK, I've been growing fruit & veg in my garden for 4 years now. Looking forward to the challenge ahead
I found the presentation really helpful. You touched on considering bunching similar crops together . But also bearing in mind that some crops need more sunlight than others. But on the whole, the emphasis is on the importance of planning ahead for your gardening. Thanks so much for. I did learn a lot from this.❤
happy 2025 everyone <3
Did anyone else have a bad time with their garden last year? I was over run (literally) with slugs, tried repellant, copper tape, beer traps but nothing could get a handle on them there were just too many. They ate everything 😢 im going to try again this year
Thank you for your ideas 😊
Can I ask: are there particular types of squash and pumpkin that like to climb? Also don’t they burn against the metal arches in the summer heat? Thank you (loving your enthusiasm, it’s contagious 😊)
Hi Ben, can you pls tell me what camera you use? I'd love to know! thx ❤
I would love to know what that late bolting spinach is called?
I have tryed so many years, in different ways, but I always just get flowers.
I really want to get some spinach! 😅
Fennel is a huge one for me this year, I have it dotted through the garden in any wee gaps (kiwi so mid growing season here) but even in season, it's easily $4 a bulb for a very small bulb half the size of what I grow 😂 saves so much money and fills in all the wee gaps. I even have it interplanted with daffy bulbs which have gone for the year 😂
Happy New Year Ben~!! I'm so happy to see you posting new videos again, I really need the positive outlook after a terrible garden & health year. This year will be better, even if I have to slow down a bit because of my heart. I am so glad to see beginners posting here, they could not have a better teacher! All the best in 2025!
After the HOT HOT HOT summer (and a rat party in my raised beds) your enthusiastic vidis is just what I needed to help me rise up out of my winter of discontent. Off to find the graph paper. Cheers
