Hi everybody not sure if this is allowed but my Lawn has seen better days. As we get closer to spring I was thinking of probably hiring someone to completely renovate my lawn or to aerate and seed. I called around and was told for a 3k sqft lawn, aeration would be anywhere between $75-$120. If I wanted to seed it would be $1k-$1600. My lawn is flat with no trees around except at the edges but there is a clear separation of the lawn and flower beds. Do those prices seem reasonable to everyone?

Well first of all, your lawn looks pretty ripped up — like intentionally. Any chance you’re getting raccoons or skunks digging?

Those prices for aeration seem pretty good, but crazy high for seeding (does it include fertilizer, dethatching, and/or a preemergent application?). Might depend on where you’re located, too. Because it’s winter in most places in the US and Canada, most people aren’t seeding yet.

  2. Bro. You need 10 tons of Grub-Ex before you even think about aerating. You have a MASSIVE grub problem. Thats why crows/racoons/etc. are digging up your yard like that.

Seed it yourself, the aeration price isn’t bad

Do you have in-ground sprinklers? If you’re going to spend a bunch on seed, it’ll be wasted unless you water adequately. If you don’t have in-ground sprinklers I wouldn’t pay anyone for anything to be professionally done. Fix your grub problem, overseed a bit yourself in the spring and water appropriately and you can get this pretty good without breaking the bank. Landscapers always charge a ton for seeding.

Where are you located? What kind of grass are you looking to grow? You can get a reasonable broadcast spreader for a decent amount and if you search on Facebook Marketplace or eBay you may find a really good quality one for a low price. Just avoid Scott’s cheap big box store spreaders. I agree with other posters, without in-ground irrigation seeding will be a hard trick to pull off successfully
