Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

G'day Everyone, Happy New Year! May your vegetable gardens be productive, and I wish you all the best health for 2025. Thanks for your support, and I'll see you next year! Cheers 🙂
Hey Mark, where did you get that folding pick shovel from?
Blessings from Arkansas, U.S.A.
I'd have to migrate to another country to be able to afford land.
Yes I did enjoy it. Thank you to remind us to get out. Not me personally because I am out all the time. Love my garden. Trying to grow food but still failing. I need to find the right places to different vegies. This summer I try more. I believe I am in a "micro climat" in a valley near Lismore. My friend dairy farmers has heaps of tomatoes mine died early no idea why but the chillies are booming. So moving things around might be the unswer. 👍👌🫶
I love your channel more than 5 years now …but… Global warming is not that we will have warmer weather . It does not work like this. Actually climate change can make gardening harder . That is the reason I like your style of gardening. It is resilient to extreme weather .
LOVE the way you have fun with the editing.
Great stuff as usual ❤ Happy new year
Thing is, most people don't know how to garden or don't have the space. There needs to be a free program/course in every city as possible & community lots for anyone who doesn't have space to grow.
Extra CO2 makes plants produce carbohydrates faster, leading to produce with fewer vitamins and minerals and more sugars and starches. Choose heritage varieties that haven't already been selected for faster growth and fewer vitamins and minerals to reduce the harm this will do to you, and also work on just eating more vegetables and fruits and less empty carbohydrates like bread, rice, and pasta, to get the nutrients you need.
HAPPY NEW YEARS from South West Florida!
Great video! Thank you for the inspiration! Do you do any hydroponics?
Well said 👍
I started over last year after turning my new house into a home. My garden was and continues to be instrumental in improving my mental health after my ex cheated on me. I started last year shattered. I ended it way better and with the core of a garden. It is also a great help to me as I am a counselor and I can potter a bit after I help someone with something hard.
This channel has been on my watch list a while and a great help for me.
Keep up the good work.
Good on you mate, you're a bonza bloke….. Going to the gym in your veggie, and fruit garden, is a great novel idea that might take off, like an elephant on a mission to find heaven, (all those push-ups, squats and burp-peas), and I think I'm going to do it,in 2025……. just to try to contribute, and make our planet slightly better…
I hope….Thanks, Happy New Year everyone!
Thank you 🙏 happy new year 🎊🎆🎈
I’m trying! Happy New Year!
Beaut video Mark…..Happy New Year 👍👍
You are so right if Man touches our food it’ll make us sick if God touches our food it’ll make us well. It’s a simple as that. Thank you for your video. I love gardening it is so much fun.
To be able to walk outside and pick a fresh salad. Or make some kale chips. Happy New Year
The flying foxes and possums take first dibs around here 🙄
Cheers
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to you, your family & viewers. Last year only tomatoes came up. That's ok, I'm planning on a more successful garden in 2025! Thank you, Mark, for your encouragement & sharing your gardening knowledge. It's greatly appreciated! Cheers! 🙂
Can I get a birdies discount in NZ? I bought a couple of tree surrounds to try it out
It would be epic if you had a medicinal cannabis plant added to your garden!
Great points. The cost of food alone is the greatest reason to grow your own. There are many solutions for small areas and vertical planters as well. Your enthusiasm is encouraging.
Good one mate.
Happy new year mate.
I am harvesting the first batch of meat from my garden today. 5 rabbits who have lived a good life will now give me meat and fur. alive, they have given me first class manure and eaten cuttings and weeds.
“Mmhmmm” while aggressively swinging made me cackle at 3 am. Just started my seeds can’t wait for a productive year!!!
Awesome Mar, we love your channels, can’t wait for what you have installed this year. I’ll have to put some gardening stuff on our channel too. Thanks again for sharing and being so inspirational.👍🐝🍯
Hello! I've recently bought my first house and I'd like to grow my own fruits and veggies, but the garden is small and covered in concrete. Do you have any tips for growing your own fruits and veggies in pots/containers/hanging baskets? Thank you!!
Happy New Year, Cheers 😃
Mark, your videos and veggies are always fantastic. I am in the UK and struggle so much with slugs! 2024, I thought I'd cracked it and the the butterflies got in and caterpillars destroyed a lot of it. I managed to save my beans and tomatoes though. I'll try again this year. Have a good 2025

Greetings from north Florida/Alaska! On the Alaska side of things at the moment (I've got it backwards, I guess), and the only thing I am growing is icicles! Happy New Year!
