Great photo find. Now you can look forward to the treasure hunt.
Have heard obedient plant not obedient
So cool that you were able to get those photos !! So interesting !
Wow it was actually pretty !.
I think itβs fun to look back at old pics and see the progress. Your pics are gold!!! CaliKim
Hi Janey, that is really cool and the back yard was pretty. You just keep finding treasures as you dig. Thank you for all your content this year. I have learned so much for you. I really need to take some video of my yard/garden. Would love to show you all the hostas we have. I live about 15 miles outside of Boston.
Looks like the previous owner didn't want to do any maintenance and just tore stuff out as it rotted and covered up the other stuff.
Itβs pretty cool to see the past. I think you need that larger back deck. But pretty sure that fence should be first.

Coud you please tell us how to find those historical pictures of our houses. I would love to see how my property used to look like. Thank you in advance. Love all of your videos.
The landscape was beautiful why would they cover it up. It had to be expensive to put it all in.
Iβve always been the type to want to dig around, scrape away, replace with good soil. You cannot amend away landscape rock. Iβm in the same boat. Need to get a tractor to dig out a gravel driveway so I can fill with good soil and garden there.
I like the way your property looked. Why someone would change it, I don't understand. That deck was beautiful!
Oh, wow is kind of pretty the way they had it! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Janey! I received your newsletter, and love the idea of bingo to keep me motivated to keep gardening. My hip has been giving me problems since July, so my backyard is a complete mess. Hopefully I will be able to break the clean up into bite sized pieces, and keep moving forward. That is so cool that you found pictures of your property from the past. I agree that it looked quite nice before everything got buried. What a strange way to go about changing the landscape.
I canβt stand the first owners cactus but other than that it looked pretty nice. I donβt understand any design choices of the 2nd owners. They really destroyed the property. But you are restoring it to its original glory and even better!
Hi, can you tell me where you purchased your seed starting shelve?
I learned as a MG, to mix copper sulfate with dormant oil for peach leaf curl. The copper is preventive for curl and the dormant oil is for insects AND it helps adhere the copper sulfate to the tree. Also important to spray when you have a few dry days after spraying. π
Weeding! Perfect time to weed with all our rain.
Yes would love to find out how to find old photos. We bought a beautiful English garden in the Sierra Foothills. Itβs such a gem and was designed by by an Irishman about 15 years ago. Iβd love to find old pictures of its original design
happy new year, i am planting trees, i am near memphis tn clay soil they moved us to zone 8 but i plant for 7b
Wow! Interesting!
Over the last couple of years, I have planted the opera series of petunias, and they do not disappoint. I particularly enjoy the pink morn variety. They thrive in the southeastern heat and humidity and last all summer. Just mentioning because I see you are also in seed starting mode.
The old photos show a garden with structure and itβs own kind of beauty, itβs wild that in five years that became weeds, dirt and all the hardscape was removed . I never understand that. There is a house down the street that had a beautiful front yard with a berm landscaped with huge boulders and structural old evergreens. Itβs was very well done and expensive. New owners just bulldozed flat, ripped all plants out and put in a lawnβ¦ it boggles the mind.
Wow! I loved seeing what the garden used to look like. Isnβt it nice to have an explanation for all the stuff that you are finding? I cannot believe they just covered it all up with dirt and mulch. How lazy is that? If it was me, I would be thrilled every time I dug up something because Iβd be like oh Iβm gonna use this here. Every time I find some odd thing buried in the dirt in my yard. It comes out and in a pile to be used for something else later I found concrete where I didnβt want it and I broke it up and I use it as stepping stones in my front garden. I have found round concrete pavers just a few and I use those to elevate big pots in the garden. Anyway if I were you, Iβd just look at it as free gifts although I know itβs a lot of work. My backyard had a bed at one time that was lined with rocks. The bed was far too shallow, but I dug each rock up set aside and they are gonna be main features in my dry Creek bed. I am super happy to have them as for my plan for winter gardening. I am going to clear my east bed or rather create an east bed in my backyard clear the grass put down cardboard put dirt on top and Iβll be ready for planting in spring! Last year a plumbing company tore up my whole back bed or half of it to replace My back Neighborβs sewer line. I had an open trench 5 foot deep and 8 foot wide for a full month when they finally filled in it was a huge mess. I had to let it settle and then I had to re-dig and smooth and then a cable company came out to redo their cable line that messed it up again so bad that was already made and I just needed to add to. It had to be started over completely from scratch. It was June and July before I could plant in it. I am so looking forward to being able to just pop plants into it this year.
I would love to see photos of your garden now compared to those photos that you just showed us. I know your garden is a work in progress, but Iβd love to see how it compares.
Happy new year!
So cool to see the old photos of your home and gain insight into the struggles you've faced developing your landscape moving forward! Thank you for sharing them!
Happy New Year Janey and friends!!!!! π ππ
I loved seeing the previous photos, wow how strange. Is it possible either they or a realtor decided to β put lipstick on a pigβ by covering up a neglected yard for re- sale? Hmmm interesting! Zone3 Manitoba π¨π¦βοΈ
